Will the class cover interfacing tapes as well?
And what about Wonder Tape?
Thanks! Next page>> |

I will not be covering tapes in this class.
There are so many aspects to understanding the purpose of interfacing, learning about different available interfacings, and how to select the best interfacing for a particular use, I decided to concentrate on regular interfacings, especially as they all pertains to garment sewing.

Subject: class stylee Date: 8/20/06 9:39 PM Dear Sarah,
Can you give a guide as to what will be involved in this class? I took your sheer fabrics class and now I am taking Sharon Gifford's tshirt class. It is interesting how different in style online classes can be! I'm also feeling that I don't want to overload on classes but I know that the whole interfacings thing is rather a large hole in my understanding.
Anyway, I don't think I'll be ready for another super-practical busy class like Sharon's again for a while, but I really enjoyed the more imaginative and creative style of the sheer class.
So will we be constructing whole garments every day, or is it possible to complete the class, and hold down a day job...?

The interfacing class will be very similar to Understanding Sheer Fabrics. We'll go through the swatches, and I'll give you a lot of background information on the purpose of interfacing and when to use interfacing. Like almost all of my classes, this one is more theoretical.
I'll give you a cut of wool and a cut of silk, and two different interfacings for the facings, for two half scale bodices so you can get some practical hands-on experience. It should take you about 1/2 to 1 hour to complete each bodice (no sleeves; the purpose is to apply the facings). This comes at the end of the class. Also, it will be helpful if through the course of the class you can fuse or baste a small bit of each interfacing sample onto fabric -- then you'll have a reference guide when deciding which interfacing to use in the future.
If you have any questions, please let me know. It would be a pleasure to have you in my class if you think you can swing the time commitment.

Subject: interfacings vs. interlinings? Date: 8/23/06 12:41 PM Hi Sarah,
I assume your class will focus mainly on interfacings, but I wonder if you will be comparing when to use them vs. when to use interlinings -- that's something I don't make good decisions on:-)
Thanks,
Nina
ETA: September is a tough month for me and I wonder if you know yet when you will be offering this class again.

Although the focus of this class is on interfacing, I will discuss underlining (sometimes called interlining) and how to decide which will give you the best results.
I'm not sure when the class will be offered again -- you'd have to ask Deepika. There's not a huge amount of hands-on work to do in this class -- like most of my classes, this one gives you a lot of information so that you can learn to make good decisions. The more time you can spend getting to know each of the interfacing samples in the kit, the better, of course.
Hope to see you in class -- if not this one, some other time. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have not received my materials yet. I asked all the members of my household and looked under all the bushes in front of the house. Not there - ?

Sorry that your kit has not arrived yet. Let's give it another day or two. If you haven't gotten it by Wednesday's mail, let me know and I'll send another one priority mail. In all likelihood, then you'll get two -- and I would then ask that you send one back to me, since they are expensive for me to put together.
How does that sound?
