Date: 9/13/06 6:33 AM I have been thinking of taking a sewing seminar and was considering either the Loes Hinse seminars through her shop or a new Louise Cutting seminar being offered in January 2007.
In addition, my husband found this additional seminar/sewing retreat featuring Loes Hinse in April 2007 which sounds great: My Webpage
Has anyone attended a Lois Hinse seminar through her shop? I found a couple of reviews for seminars that she has done at other shops but none for her own workshop.
What about the Artista Creative Safaris - has anyone attended those in the past? |

If you have a chance to sit and sew with Loes, grab it! I can't believe how lucky you are I just finished subscribing to the swatches Loes chooses at Casual Elegance Fabric . You can read the on-line newsletters published by Loes and Sharon to give you an idea of her boutique style. I hope you'll decide this would suit you and report back to those of us who can only hope to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea. HTH.

Date: 9/13/06 10:52 PM I'm going to be attending Loes' mid-October workshop with a friend.
I was in Carmel over Labor Day weekend, and stopped at the store.. I tried on many styles: Loes helped me with sizing and showed me the alteration I needed to make on her Basic Pant (without the pleats). I am so psyched.
I'll report back after the workshop. ------ nancymm |

Date: 9/17/06 11:44 AM Nancy, are you going to the refresher course (Oct 14-17) or the regular one (Oct 28-31)? I am trying to see if I can go to the regular course. |

Date: 9/17/06 12:34 PM Sounds great! I saved this in my travel favorites. I end up having to vacation on my own a lot (long story), and visiting DSis in Florida is getting old even though I love her.
I'm beginning to thing this kind of vacation is a great idea--Food Network had a show about BBQ University which also sounded like great fun. ------ Now blogging at http://sewwest.blogspot.com |

Date: 9/17/06 6:55 PM Gladys, I am going on Oct. 14. Although my friend and I didn't take her first course, we both had previous patternmaking experience, and she said we could attend. I think that the one later in the month has all first timers.
I'm not sure if the one I'm going to is filled. Most of it is personalized, so I'm not sure it matters as long as you have experience in using your machine. If you wanted to go to the one I'm attending, I'd suggest you call Loes and ask her about it.
I've seen the schedule, and it looks like big fun. ------ nancymm |

Date: 9/18/06 7:01 AM Thanks - I finally decided on the Loes first-timers workshop since those dates are better for me and my husband will also be out of town.
The biggest drawback for me is that the Loes seminar (unlike the safari) does not provide machines and sergers. Since I am travelling from Miami, I will have to leave my serger at home since I cannot imagine lugging both machines as carry-ons.
Also, I didn't want to wait 7 months but I have to say that the Artista safaris are very tempting - I'm going to keep an eye out for future safaris. |

Date: 9/22/06 6:17 AM Nancy, I called and spoke to Loes. She is trying to get a few machines for the seminar but she suggested that I look into shipping. I was only going to bring my sewing machine, which is very light, but she really suggested that I have my serger as well.
I checked UPS ground prices yesterday and for under $30 can have both machines shipped to the hotel in advance and avoid lugging them as carry-ons. Probably worth the price.
I too wish we could have met. Looking forward to the seminar! |
