Date: 10/1/06 12:10 PM I've been sewing for many years but never had a pair of pinking shears of my own. When I was back home, I would mooch off my mom's - although they were right-handed and I'm left-handed.
I went shopping at Fabricville (Fabricland) yesterday to look for a pair. They had no left-handed pinking shears. Can anyone steer me to either:
1-A good brand/model of pinking shears for lefties
2-A store in the Ottawa/Gatineau area where I could get lefty pinking shears
or
3-A website for a Canadian store (don't want to pay tonnes in shipping) where I could order pinking shears
Thanks!
Ps. I love this website! |

Date: 10/1/06 1:49 PM Thanks for that website! I'm checking it out right now. (btw, reminds me of Ned Flanders' leftorium! )
The pinking shears are $60 - that's a little expensive :s -- Edited on 10/1/06 2:03 PM -- |

Date: 10/1/06 8:09 PM They are not in Canada but Heimerdinger Cutlery has a nice selection of left handed scissors and they know what true left hand scissors are. They have the info on their website on another page. I have bought from them and they were nice to deal with.
I see Mundial is the brand that has true left hand pinking shears. Maybe you could do a search for those in Canada. ------ Liz

Girls do not dress for boys. They dress for themselves, and of course, each other. If girls dressed for boys, they’d just walk around naked at all times.

Date: 10/1/06 11:39 PM Personally, I would never buy another pair of Gingher pinking shears. My mother gave me a pair when I first started sewing, and they're really stiff. I never use them. DMIL just bought me a pair of Kai scissors, and they are SO much smoother than my Gingher knife edges. Unfortunately, I don't see lefty pinking shears on their website. You might ask and see if they have them apart from the website (www.kaiscissors.com). (NAYY, just heard about them from the wonderful ladies here, and checked them out at the sewing expo that was in town this weekend). Edited to add: They have free shipping to US, but I don't know about Canada.
Incidentally, I'm right handed. Kai's pinking shears are incredibly smooth to cut with as well. I was extremely impressed.
Another option might be to get a pinking blade and a rotary cutter (and mat). Good luck with your pinking hunt!

I have had better luck with the pinking blade on a rotary cutter.

They also have wave styles, too. |

Date: 10/2/06 10:00 PM Thanks for the info - the picture didn't load however, it only went to the main site.
I have bought a pair of true left-handed pinking by Mundial. I called around to different stores in Gatineau and Ottawa and found one in Gatineau with left handed pinking shears - Centre de la couture de gatineau (I think that's the name... it's on Maloney). |
