Just wanting to know if anyone is planning to enter this contest? I think it would be really interesting to see what people are sewing and how the process goes.

I was thinking about trying the men's shirt for my DH, if I can get it done in time.

It's really tempting with the prize of a trip to Paris. I looked at the pattern selection and started choosing what I might like to sew but I'm not an overly imaginative sewist so I think my "look" would be very plain. Interesting how there are practically no guidelines. One could do just about anything.

I know. And the question is: Do they want people getting creative and changing the patterns around? or are they looking for just well executed examples of the patterns the way they are drafted in order to promote the pattern line?
This is sponsored in part by Taunton Press, Threads Magazine, and they have a history of choosing overly embellished over-the-top entries for their contest winners. So who knows what they'll be looking for. Is a long shot at a potential trip to Paris worth over-embellishing something?

I'm still waiting for an answer to my question to Simplicity on how they can pick 19 finalists and only award 13 prizes. I'll get that free trip to Paris yet!

I am sorely tempted to buy a bunch of Threads patterns on sale at JoAnn's when they are on sale next week, since it turns out you don't have to have bought them at Hancocks - or so they answered in my last question.

I'll enter--have nothing to lose. But I am confused on one thing in the rules. In the beginning part of the rules it seems to indicate you can enter more than one garment, you just have to mail them in separately. But for the internet rules, it says you can only make one submission per email address (though it doesn't say one submission per person and lots of people have more than one email address). Anyone know if you have to pick your best piece? Or can you hedge your bets. ;-) Sort of theoretical because I doubt I'll make more than one piece from the line but still.

No, you don't have to buy anything from Hancocks. But they are the sponsor of the competition, which is why they are mentioned. I was wondering if you had to buy the pattern from Hancocks, which would be a problem because we don't have any in my area. But they responded to my inquiry and said no, they just ask for that information for feedback purposes.

I really like 3877; I hadn't noticed it before. I might have to pick that up (not for the contest, though).

The contest states Threads or Sew Stylish patterns. I'm not certain which patterns are the Sew Stylish ones, though.

Gee, I can think of alot of places I'd like to visit, but given the current "feelings" about Americans right now, I would hesitate to go to Paris, even if it was a free trip. But, that's just my personal travel preference, and itís definitely an exciting, culture rich travel destination nonetheless.

As far as sewing contests, Iím sure they are fun for those that participate, but I sew for my personal satisfaction and I fear that turning it into a competitive venture would ruin that for me. The older I get, the less I desire to compete with anyone in any way. I guess I'm just losing my "edge".

I enjoy sharing sewing experiences, just not the competition aspect.

Hmmm. I'm thinking of participating...but I wonder if it would even be worth it.

I have and idea bbut money is tight right now so jutifying the cost of the fabric and trim is tough... although, we're renewing our vows in December and a trip to Paris would be an incredible 2nd honeymoon! (We didn't get to go anywhere for our honeymoon when we got married... stayed a hotel here in St. Louis)
