Date: 2/28/07 3:26 PM I just heard that Wal-Mart is discontinuing their fabric department Its not that they have the best fabric, but they are great for basics, notions, and even quilt fabrics. I buy their $1 fabric to use for muslins, and I often go there for thread and zippers, since the regular fabric stores are nowhere near my house.
Also, I live in an area with a lot of lower-income people who will have nowhere to buy reasonably priced fabric if this happens.
If you are upset and want to complain, call 1-800-WALMART, and tell anyone who might be interested. ------ Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without. |

Date: 3/29/07 4:17 PM Oh no! I have been known to shop fabrics at our Walmart's in Canon City and in Pueblo. They' re the only ones that carry fabrics around here for 50 miles. It's nice to be able to get interfaciing and such closer to home. I did email Walmart today and expressed concern. Also indicated that if they close out their fabric departments to let me know, I might decide to open a fabric store. I know how Walmart's hates competition! ------ Suzan |

Date: 3/30/07 9:06 PM Our local WalMart got rid of their fabric + trim (I got some great deals)...then 2 weeks later I go in and they are fully stocked again?! The lady working the dept. said the story changes from one day to the next and she wasn't sure WHAT was going on. Maybe enough people clamored about it? I agree - you can't beat their prices for basics + there are some decent fabrics there. CC |

Date: 3/30/07 9:09 PM Ya know? I was in our Walmart just recently, and they still had their fabric dept. with stocked fabrics??? I thought they would have been cleaned out by April, the way they were talking. |

Date: 5/16/07 8:39 AM I just had to bring this back to life. I was in the Walmart the other day the lady was wondering if I "found everything I need" I replied well I miss the fabric will they ever bring it back? She said it seems like it has been talked about alot and could be coming back. Then she wondered if that would be a good thing. I told her yes. I liked getting the cottons with cute little daisies with faces on it for making little girls dresses. She smiled and said we will see.
has anyone else heard any talk about the fabric dept coming back into their stores? Ours started up without one just in Feb. so this would be new in my area. would be nice to find sewing supplies without having to drive a good 50 - 70 miles away. |

Date: 5/16/07 9:28 AM With Walmart's close proximity in most locations it is a shame that they've closed some of the fabric departments. Ours is still open... but it's a mess!!! It's in a space not much bigger than my sewing room (which is in a small bedroom) but there is ALWAYS someone back there buying something. Go figure! |

Date: 5/17/07 10:35 PM My Wal-Mart in Central Texas has been spared its fabric department closing for at least five years. Why, who knows. Maybe because it is in a rural area and we have no other store within 30 miles to purchase fabric. |
