Hi, I am fairly new to PR and a beginning sewer.

I have made a few skirts, a dress (I was inspired to make that Mccall's sundress with the gathered bodice after reading serveral reviews of it here on PR!), and a few tops.

I want to make a vintage type full dress with a lace overlay. I have some beautiful lavendar lace fabric and a coordinating lavendar fabric to serve as a "slip."

I am concerned about hemming the lace. What is the best way to do this- I don't want the hemline on the lace part to be "bulky", If you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance!
Trish

I would do a narrow double-fold hem, on the lace and on the slip. Turn it up once, 1/4 to 3/8 inch, then turn it up that much again. Then I'd topstitch by machine with matching thread.

Be sure to hold onto your thread tails as you start to stitch, and use taut sewing technique [pulling on thread/fabric behind the needle]. This is especially important if you sew across a place where there's no fabric [holes in the lace], so the hem stays nice and flat, not puckered.

HTH :)
