I have learned so much from you guys about modifying patterns to fiit my ample bosom, yet I am I don't know where to start with this particular pattern, Simplicity 3774:

http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=wnsimp.cfm.

or http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=search.cfm&numMatch=2&design_id=14504&design=3774&thumbnail_image=3774t.jpg&ldesc=Misses%20Dresses&size_range=6%20to%2022

Those "pleats/tucks" are just throwing me off.
Please help!

Ty

You will need to make a regular FBA, ignore the pleat markings while you do. This will add the needed fullness in width and length. After you do this, you will be able to rotate the bust dart to the empire waist. Does the bodice have a hidden dart within the pleats or just the pleats? If there is no dart, you will need to redistribute the added fullness by either adding another pleat or increasing the size of each of the pleats.

If you are really full-busted, you may still need part of the FBA in a side seam dart, with the rest added to the pleated area.

If you don't have a resource book for alterations, read through the sticky thread on this forum. Debbie Cook compiled many posts about FBA's, including some of her own excellent tutorials. Look for empire waist modifications especially.

Okay, sounds like this will work. I will check more closely on the pattern, but I don't think it has a "hidden" dart.

Yes, Debbie Cook's tutorials are fantastic.
Thanks for the reply!
