I can't figure out how to finish attaching the facing.

Has anyone made the Vogue 8229 dress? I'm stuck on the neckline and the instructions are no help. It's a loose fitting sleeveless dress. Basically, front and back are gathered at the top and then attached to a 3 (?) inch deep neckband/collar. The main pieces don't come up over the shoulders, you just have the neckband there.

The collar's sewn to the dress and I've attached the collar facing along the neckline. I know the facing needs to be turned to the inside but how do I get it to stay there? Am I supposed to just press the seam allowance and hand stitch them at their bottom edges?

I hope I've described this properly... Any advice?

There are several patterns, which you'll find by entering the pattern number into the search at the upper left of your screen, below the Home button.

Probably the instructions call for a hand whip stitch or other type of invisible tacking stitch. My preference would be for stitch in the ditch, if you know how to do that.

You might want to understitch the facing to get it to stay - you can search 'understitch' here on PR or check a sewing instruction book, if the definition isn't in your pattern instructions.

Yep... I've made this pattern a couple of times. You have to put the zipper in first..as it ends in the neckband, then they give instructions (step 24 :)) to sew the edges of the neck band and facing together. It will work My only caution is that when I first made the dress, I gathered the dress as instructed but found that the neck band wouldn't sit flat on my shoulders. So I un-stitched it all and attached the dress without gathers...sits beautifully flat now...so check how it sits before sewing it all up.

Thanks for your help, everyone. I can't believe the answer was right in front of me. I try to remember to read the instructions all the way through before starting a pattern but I was too impatient this time around. It's been ridiculously hot out and I only own one summer dress.

Overall I've found this pattern to be pretty easy to put together. The only snag now is that even thought the dress is almost done, it is HUGE. I'll have to take it apart some to take it in. This is my first vogue pattern so maybe I should try a size smaller for the next one.

Thanks again!
