I was able to get my hands on two Butterick sewing pattern cabinets from a now closed Hancock store. They were a bargain for $60 each and in very good condition. Below is data I gathered either online and from trips to my local fabric stores to help you acquire one.

New Look/Simplicity Cabinet:
I could not find the manufacture sticker for the New Look/Simplicity cabinets.

Manufacturer?
42Hx33.0Wx25 D
4 drawers with 5 rows with fixed dividers

The metal cabinets used to hold Vogue, Butterick, Burda, McCall, and Kwik Sew patterns are manufactured by Corry Contract, Inc. (CCI) in Corry, Pennsylvania.

Vogue/Butterick/Burda Cabinets*:
CCI Model #B404
42Hx30.0Wx25D
4 drawers with 5 rows with removable dividers

Or

CCI Model #B406
42Hx36.5Wx25D
4 drawers with 6 rows with removable dividers

*Note: 1 drawer row will hold the small size pattern and 2 drawer rows will fit the large Vogue pattern.

McCall Cabinet:
CCI Model #MR261
42Hx27.5Wx25D
5 drawers with 3 rows with removable dividers

Kwik Sew Cabinet:
I think this is a custom made cabinet since I could not find a model number for the dimensions in CCIs Storage Capacity Selection Chart.

CCI Model??
49.5Hx33.0Wx25 D
6 drawers with 3 rows with removable dividers

Check with a salesperson about models, costs and cabinet colors.

Sticker Removal
Im in the process of removing the Butterick stickers from each drawer. I peel as much of the sticker as I can with my nails and then wipe the remains of the sticker away with a soft rag dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Oil works great in removing sticky residue. Regular cooking oil (vegetable, olive, whatever you have on hand).

I have a regular office filing cabinet, but of course that isn't nearly as useful for patterns as the ones that they use in the stores.

------
With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

I got one of those cabinets years ago when a cloth World was moving to a new location and didn't want to move the old stuff.

I was got the stickers off I believe with goo remover..

I painted mine flat black with spray paint I hated the dirty tan color.

When we re did my sewing room last year we glue black felt to the bottom of it so it wouldn't scratch the wood flooring.. you can't tell where the cabinet and the felt end or stop with out looking very close.

I use mine for pattern and other supplies in some of the drawers.

You could also take to an auto paint shop for a professional color change! I would love to have two Vogue cabinets side by side!

I bought 2 Simplicity cabinets when the local Hancock's closed. I used goo-gone and oops to remove stickers, then spray painted them glossy ivory. They look quite nice! I'm waiting for DH to cart them to the sewing room in the basement. I'll use one for patterns and one for fabric. It did take a fair amount of spray paint.

What brand of spay paint did you use?

Is there a manufacturer sticker somewhere on the Simplicity cabinets? I was unable to check the Simplicity cabinet at the fabric store since they were full of patterns. The Corry Contract Inc. sticker is located in the center back of the first drawer.

I think it would be cool to stencil on the cabinet. I have been thinking about that maybe some sewing related stencils.

I used the following process: Wire brush on drill, navel jelly to dissolve rust, wash and dry, sandpaper disc on drill, rustoleum spray paint on the bottom of the cabinets; all this because they had a considerable amount of rust underneath. The rustoleum came in very limited colors, so I used Krylon interior-exterior in my color choice for the (non-rusted) sides/front/back. Taped off the little "windows" were you put the pattern numbers with masking tape. Do a small section at a time and move slowly, make sure you're not too close or you will get drips. Run a fan and have plastic underneath-I have them sitting on boards to get the bottom edge. Krylon dries in 12 minutes; I obtained it at Walmart and there was a wide variety of colors. I think it took about 6 or 7 cans to do 1 cabinet-don't do too many coats or it will blotch. Good luck!
