Sewing in Ireland? Help!

I'm trying to determine where I should get a machine from, and I'm struggling to turn up a reasonable source of fabric. Unfortunately, I've tried out Hickey's and they seem to be more of a home decor place with not a lot in the way of apparel fabric. I considered bringing my old machine, but at about $100 for a voltage converter and at least $100 to ship it just seems more practical to buy one here since mine was pretty basic. I think I've found a store that can order one for me (though at twice the price I'd be paying for it in the US ). I really appreciate the crafting board site...that's probably the ideal place to find other people looking for this kind of stuff. Thanks! ------ Christina http://craftyourclothes.blogspot.com

I haven't tried it, as I don't find the web site easy to navigate, but at one time there were a lot of swatches from this company in the Vogue patterns magazine and they looked lovely quality (not cheap though I don't recall them being dreadfully expensive either). You can find their address if you put their name into Google. For your sewing machine, try Sewing Machines Direct. They are Internet/Mail order. Based in England but they ship overseas as far as I am aware and perhaps to Ireland it wouldn't be too expensive. Hope you are settling in OK and that you find some sewing outlets soon. If Ireland is anything like England, the availability of sewing outlets is extremely poor unfortunately. I think that the KNitting and Stitching SHow goes to Dublin now. It is run by Twisted Thread. Might be worth looking into if you are near there since the one in England tends to be where I stock up for the year.
