Recently, on the Foundation Makeup Coverage thread (see link below) several members spoke about using Olive oil to cleanse and moisturize, and condition the skin.

After using Olive Oil for just a couple of weeks, I am a believer. I'm letting all my friends know about this. I also wanted to start a new topic so that others--perhaps who have no interest in acne and coverage, could benefit from this great stuff.

Just a couple of weeks using olive oil (with a couple of drops of organic Lavender oil added) has left my facial skin soft and clear--dare I say glowing? I am having no new skin breakouts--no whiteheads or blackheads. And what I do have is clearing. This is amazing to me--after 40 years of constant acne problems. The color seems to have evened out and my face is less irritated. (Yesterday--my day off--I didn't feel the usual need to immediately apply makeup to even out the skin tones.)

I use it after my bath and the texture of my 50+ years body skin seems not so thin and papery--my DH describes my skin as "creamy". My skin is soft! Even my alligator skin--where I've had damage from sunburn looks better.

I wash my face with the oil by applying and gently massaging it in--then rinsing it in a warm shower. Sometimes I uses sugar or salt as a gentle exfoliant. I also apply a little olive oil just after my bath and in just a few minutes it is absorbed in to my skin. Any extra can be toweled off.

I also conditioned my newly washed hair with it mixed 50% with my usual conditioner and am pleased with how soft my coarse hair is.

Here is a link describing all the benefits and studies of olive oil at

World's Healthiest Foods.

I hope this helps someone else and that you will add your feedback using this product and other natural products for health and beauty.

Carla

I will try the Foundation Coverage Thread again and hope it works.

Edited to fix the link.

I seem to remember that the very first cold cream invented, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, was made with olive oil. A friend of mine who is allergic to everything uses an olive oil soap.

It is fabulous for shaving esp in the bikini area, legs, etc. I don't get red bumps anymore.

I also rub it generously on feet & heels before bed for sandal ready pretty feet.

Hummm... oh, it is awesome when used on the chest & shoulders. I used to have little bumps where the bra sits inbetween the girls, but do not have the bumps any longer.

OOOOh, this is good. Use the salt or sugar scrub on arms, elbows & legs, esp. knee caps & ankles before drying and applying tinted lotion or spray on hose.

I wish I had been born to an Italian family so I would have figured all this out earlier in life. All the $$$ I could have been saving all these years of buying tons of product.

I love this idea. I know that Claire Schaeffer suggested rubbing hands with oil and sugar to make them smooth before working with fabrics that may snag (I am sorry I can't remember which book now) and it does work. Of course, make sure you thoroughly rub the oil in to your hands and then remove the extra oil so your fabric doesn't get ruined.

And. . .I am off to use the oil and sugar combo on my body after my run. . .I can't wait to see what my skin feels like.

We have used it a couple of times to kill head lice. Every parent of a school age child dreads those words "Mommy, my head itches". It is more work than Nix or RID, both of which did not work. The lice have become resistant to most of the common chemicals sold to get rid of them. Every time we have used the olive oil routine, it has worked. Plus I am not dumping chemicals on my kids heads.

Ok, I'm feeling a little dense, and definitely not getting this.

Do you use the olive oil as if it was soap? Wet your face, put on the olive oil, rinse?

Do you wash your face with soap 1st to get the dirt off, & then with oil - and then rinse?

Do you wash your face, then put on the oil as a moisturizer?

Do do you not wash your face at all & put a light layer of oil on? (That seems like it wouldn't get your face very clean, though.)

Hi Anne,

Yes, I just dip clean fingers into a small saucer of the oil/lavender mix then apply to my face. The oil dissolves dirt and grime and oil plugs. Then I rinse with warm water--or use a steamy washcloth to wipe your face. You can use some of the salt or sugar if you want as a gentle scrub.

EVOO is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent, and has some antimicrobial properties--see the link. My face feels very clean and fresh after using it.

After rinsing I apply Jojoba oil in th morning under makeup---and in the evening some olive oil before bedtime.

I was very resistant to the idea at first also....everyone "knows" that oil is the enemy of clean skin. But it worked for me.

I find this just amazing.

Now, can you use EVOO around the eyes? To remove makeup?

Do you recommend any specific brands of EVOO?

I wanted to mention the DHC Skincare company. I think they pretty much formulate all of their products around an olive oil base.
Has anyone tried their products?? (I haven't, they're pretty pricey)DHC
