Date: 7/31/07 11:30 PM Alrighty, start your engines and give us a good college try!
The Rules:
1.Projects should have been started before particularly recent memory. More importantly, is your judgment however, if it’s bugging you and you think of it as UFO not WIP, then it is a UFO in terms of this contest.
2. The items need to be a “new” sewing project not mending. The material can be recycled, so long as you aren’t simply remaking something. I.e. Knits from men’s xxxxl tess, or a dress from curtains.
3. To be considered a UFO the project needs to be at least cut out but not necessarily sewn. An intended project (all the notions, all the fabric matched with the right pattern) does not count as a UFO.
4. Points will be distributed per completed object as so:
4 pts- cut out, completely unsewn
3 pts- more than half the project is left to do
2 pts- less than half the project is left to do, but it is more than just hemming or attatching buttons
1 pt- hemming, attaching buttons, slipstiching a single edge, or something of the same variety.
One person, with the most points will receive a prize (undecided as of yet)
5. A complete object is one that can be worn or used in the state in which you claim it is finished. A lined jacket, that you are planning to line, then, needs to be lined. A quilt top, but unquilted does not count.
5. Also, the most creatively finished project will be voted upon, so make sure you include the story in your review! Creative finishing means that the garment in question cannot be finished as it was originally intended (Used notions for another project, not enough of the right fabric, this isn't fitting or different buttons used, but a major obstacle for completion.)
6. All types of sewing are permitted.
7. An honorable mention goes to the person with the oldest UFO completed. Dig out the goodies!
8. Please start sewing no earlier than Midnight, Aug 1st. Pacific Standard Time and stop no later than Midnight, Sept. 31st. PST. ------ Needle Needle Straight and Slim, Dust and Sweep the House for Him! --Grimm Fairy Tales |

Date: 8/1/07 8:38 AM I am so excited. I told my husband about the contest and he just laughed. That hurt...no...really...
Seriously, though, this is a great motivator. My sewing room would have a lot more room if I didn't have these UFOs lying around. Gotta make room for fabic and patterns so I can do the fabric stash and pattern stash contests when they come, ya know? Then I will have more UFOs and can do that again.....

Date: 8/1/07 8:45 AM Thanks LadyM,
For me, the real true value of this contest will be motivation again to get into some of the UFO's and complete some projects. And there are two I'd like to finish this week before leaving for Chicago, however, I need to finish the two dresses that have been under construction that didn't get finished in time to enter into the OPML contest, lest they become UFO's. And they will be wonderfully wearable in Chicago too.
I'm on a kick now, to not Create any more UFO's....it's hard though, very hard. I've always been so susceptible to the lure of the shiny new project, abandoning projects along the way with impunity.
so thank you for making my UFO pile the shiniest new thing.

Date: 8/1/07 2:20 PM Tomorrow I hop a train for Chicago to spend a couple days with my daughter. Last year when I came home, I brought two skirts I'd begun making with plans to finish. With inspiration from this contest, I might have just finish all but the hand work tonight (hemming on the train tomorrow). Daughter visited over Mother's Day and we re-fitted them but life got in the way yet again. She will be grateful for this contest. Also have 2 Kwik Sew baby clutch balls cut out since April (babies have arrived June and July respectively) and some pieces stitched. I would so like to have this stuff done!
Among the scheduled events for this visit is a trip to The Needle Shop to pick up materials for the A-Line Skirt workshop (and we will practice zipper insertion too). Somehow this member of a pair of self-employed parents (outisde the home) didn't get too far with the sewing lessons but the seedling is struggling to get there!!! Hooray!!! She does make nice jammies... ------ "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anais Nin

Date: 8/1/07 2:47 PM This is a perfect motivator for me!
Do we list what we hope to finish during the course of the contest, or just post items as completed?
Thanks! ------ patti in IL |

Date: 8/1/07 2:48 PM Oh my, I can thing of four things right off the top of my head I want to finish. One is a tailored jacket I made in my tailoring college class and didn't get finished. The lining is hanging o with pins and the sleeve s need to be finished along with buttons sewn on. I have a polo shirt cut from two summers ago and two Pamela's T-shirts that need hemming or sleeves, I can't remember. My goal is to just get these four items done, but I'm sure I have many, many more if I look hard enough for them. ------ Visit my blog at http://sewingsaga.blogspot.com

Date: 8/1/07 4:51 PM Gee, I wish there were points for pants-fitting muslins........I'd win for sure!!
I'm on my 3rd pattern (first 2 unsuccessful), and the 5th muslin of this one, using a completely new-to-me method of pivot and slide.
I've been working this on and off for 2 yrs and all my old pants are starting to shine or get holes.
Whether I'll take time to do a UFO or 2 remains to be seen,
