A few questions -

The "don't wear white after Labor Day" rule - does that apply to just shoes or shoes and pants? Obviously, people wear white blouses year round, but as I was thinking about that fashion rule the other day, I couldn't decide if pants were included or not.

On that note, however, "winter white" as the fashion mags call it - how do you pull off that look? White head to toe?

I don't consider myself the fashion police, but I guess I would think it odd if I saw someone wearing just white shoes, or white shoes and a white purse, but otherwise wearing color, after summer had ended...however, I wouldn't mind mixing it up a bit and wearing white wool slacks, a white jacket and say, white winter boots. The monotone look (usually done in black for winter) can look so refreshing in white.

What do you guys think?

I've always considered winter white a color (sim. to ivory), not so much a *look*. It's one of my favorite wardrobe colors. I love it paired w/ pastels, grays, certain browns...I always thought of it as the post-Labor Day white.

I just love all white, more so than white mixed w/ other colors (perhaps that's my floral background). Tone on tone white is stunning, too, but really tricky to get right IMO.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but I put my Colgate-white away at the end of summer.

you know, you're probably white - about "winter white" being more of a color than a look - I think I've gotten it confused in my mind, because in fashion mags, usually, when they're talking about winter white and showing examples, quite a few will be monotone outfits, in head to toe "winter white."

*probably white* You're punny...I mean funny!

I am so envious of those people who can actually wear white head-to-toe. I'm afraid DS would mistake me for the ream of craft paper he colors on.

My daughters wear head-to-toe winter white all the time - sometimes with a bit of an accent color.

I'm a southern girl and I'd be the first to tell you that I use to live by this rule, but not anymore. You can wear "true" white all year round. My 'personal' rule would be as long as it's in the appropriate fabric. For example, I wouldn't wear white linen pants or eyelet in the middle of January. But I would wear a gorgeous pair of white wool pants!

Winter White?

Love the color but it's always seemed like an oxymoron to me--not as a fashion faux pas but in purely practical terms...Like "winter coats" being that have 3/4 sleeves or open collars and no closures but are meant to be worn open or gracefully grasped closed with a slim, gloved hand...

Are we talking about "Winter?"

That dirty, messy, wet, sloshy, filthy, Oil and salt-slicked, splashy, ICY COLD, horrifyingly windy business?

I want every INCH of MY body encased in non-dirt-showing layers at all times---no short, loose sleeves or open fronts that expose the skin to the outside air....

White? One winter Chicago street during a rush hour commute would be the end of any silly notion that White of any kind is a "winter color." The thought of the dry cleaning bills alone makes me dizzy.

I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine... Most of the pleasure is in getting that last little piece perfect...Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just keep showing up and doing the work.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

I live in Southern California. You can tell when it's winter here because people wear long sleeves with their shorts. White is a year round color.
