My college friend has 2 free tickets to London and invited me to go with her. We leave in 2 weeks. Any suggestions on good fabric shops to visit?

Liberty of London is a fun place for beautiful cotton prints and wools. No bargain hunting here but it is worth the visit. It is really a department store with a fabric department. I also picked up an umbrella and vinyl coated tote to match fabric I bought. Check out the scarf selection also. Great place for gifts for friends and family back home.

Hi Melinda,
London is alive with fabric shops and market stalls depending on which part of London you are going to. If you are heading to central London, try and visit Edware Road Market, it has fabric stalls that sell lovely fabrics at such reasonable prices, (the dress I'm wearing today cost me 50p a metre, it looks like a jean muir fabric, I used a jean muir pattern). There are also a few fabric shops there that are expensive but the fabrics are beautiful and you will not find them anywhere else. Berwick Street (just off Regent Street) is another place to visit for lovely fabrics it has about six fabric shops, expensive but worth a look. The Oxfam Charity shop (off Regent St) sometimes sells fabrics and cutains. I bought a lovely pair of curtains to make a 50's style dress from there, they cost me about £4.00. If you are going to East London there is Green Street Market and Dalston market which have several very good fabric shops and stalls. Paul's fabric shop in East London is another very good shop, I buy top quality wools (when he has them) for £1.50 - £2.00 a yard. He sells all sorts of fabrics at a very reasonable price. If you are heading to North or South London there is a shop called Rolls & Rems that sells good fabrics. If you want more info, just PM me and I will give you full addresses and telephone numbers where I have them.

There's a bunch of London shops listed in the Sewing Store Review section (I know because I put some in!). Just put the drop-down country selector to United Kingdom. :)

PS: Walthamstow Market is my absolute favourite!!
