Is 42 too old for a jumper style dress?
Are jumpers best left to the younger set?

I am a petite, height weight porpotional RTW miisses pettie size 0/2, and most of my patterns are cut & sew in a size 8 or 6. My figure is fairly balanced, but I am slightly on the small size in the bust at a large A/small B cup. I 've never had to make any SBA on tops or dresses (yet).

So, I am considering making Butterick 5100 for the Heart Truth Red Dress sew-a-long, but I am having second thoughts.

I am concerned that the style may be a bit young for a 42 y.o. mother of two. Any thoughts?

No!! Many jumper patterns are also sleeveless dress patterns, so as long as you pick one that isn't "cutesie" (which that certainly isn't). I'm also vertically challenged and like jumpers. They're just so easy to wear. Will have to get that pattern.

I'm 42 and i would definitely wear this style. I think it depends on the fabric and the accessories. You can easily dress this up and grow it up by choosing a nicer fabric and not one geared to people in their 20's.

Have fun with it!

I'm 40. I would say no too.
I like your pattern and the one in September 2007 /Burda magazine. I'm planning to make
one too.

I think, given your description of yourself, that it would look fabulous on you. Can I assume you're planning to make the longer version? I'd wear it with a black top, black opaque tights and black shoes or boots, and it will look completely age-appropriate, and chic!

Go for it!

There was just a thread awhile ago on jumpers. Wear it Jenny - go for it. Jumpers are worn in my neck of the woods by anyone any age...they are comfy and over a T-neck they are fabulous. I don't currently have one, but I might just make one, and then I will resemble "The Little King" I am sure, but I will be comfy and blend right in with my fashion group here...HAHHAHHA.

Oh gosh, that would look amazing on you (based on your supercute figure from your awesome jean review).

Yes, I was planning on the version that is about knee length, and I was planning to wear a black top and black opaque tights and black pumps or boots!!- just as you are suggesting! I feel better about my idea after reading the replys here.

I'm 44 and just made that jumper in a brown double knit and I'm going to where it with a black turtleneck. Soooo, I guess I'd say that it is OK for a 42 yo.

My 2 cents: use a nice fabric. It will make all the difference in the world. IMO, you have a great build for that dress. (Very similar to my build, but it's a tad more trendy than I wear. In other words, it would be out of style before I finished making it. )

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.
