Date: 12/2/07 9:27 AM Sign up!!! It is a great class and a wonderful technique. I have used it several times. I still wear the jacket I made in class. I was a little skeptical as it was my first online class but I loved it. Just signed DD up to take Shannon's 101 class.
ETA: Here's a link to the review of the jacket I made in class. I used Loes Hinse' "tuxedo pattern".SNF Jacket -- Edited on 12/2/07 9:30 AM -- ------ www.thereisjoyadventures.blogspot.com |

Date: 12/2/07 10:29 AM You will love the class. Shannon is an excellent teacher and you will come away with well-illustrated directions that you can refer to in the future. She answers questions very patiently. My jacket turned out great except that I made mine too large (even after making a muslin!). I just gave it away to my SIL whom it fits perfectly so at least it went to a good home. So, be sure that you use a pattern that fits you since the class is about construction methods not fitting. Here is my review of Simplicitiy 4698. ------ Patti

Date: 12/2/07 11:18 AM Let me endorse what Peggy & Patti have said. I reviewed the class & the jacket pattern. If you click on my name you can go to the reviews. I really detailed what I *Loved* about the online classes with Shannon in particular, but online-over-brick-and-mortar-classrooms in general.

Date: 12/2/07 12:58 PM I think it's a good class, and I've used the technique many times. In fact, there's a jacket I'm working on right now using SNF! ------ --Robyn

Date: 12/2/07 2:41 PM Question--does this class teach you how to make a lining for an unlined jacket pattern, or should the pattern include a lining? ------ --Michelle

Date: 12/2/07 2:55 PM I really would love to take this class. I'm hoping that it will be offered again next year, because it starts on 10th December and I don't usually have much sewing time in December.
Deepika, please invite Shannon to do another Stitch and Flip class soon.

Date: 12/2/07 3:14 PM You line the pieces as you join them together. The main thing about the pattern is that, although it can have a yoke, you want the body of the jacket to have all vertical seams. Shannon will make some recommendations about patterns. Start directing questions to her in the pre-sign-up section. She's just wonderfully helpful! ------ PVA (Pat) "A girl can't have too many scissors!"

Date: 12/2/07 3:31 PM It's a great Shannon class, but pick a TNT pattern. Once you stitch and flip, the seams can't be altered. The pattern needs to be altered to fit before making the jacket. ------ Big 4 Pattern size 12, RTW bottom: 6, RTW jacket 8, RTW top (no size fits me well!)
Measurements: 34 HB/36 FB (34C bra)/27.5/36 (and working hard to keep it that way.)
Machines: Sewing (Janome Memory Craft 3000 and Kenmore 158 Series machine), Serger (Babylock Imagine), Embroidery (Janome 300E)
If you think your sewing is better than everyone else's around here, get out of my way b****. I hate sewing snobs.

Date: 12/2/07 5:04 PM Thank you all so much for your comments and links. I think I will try the class (my first online and second internet purchase altogether!).
I've made a couple of jackets, but have not been pleased with the fit. As I have just completed a pair of pants, I was pondering what to work on next. Now I know!
Thank you all very much. |
