Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 1:00 PM Well, well, well. The contest that inspired me the most last year is mine to manage.
Let's start with the basics -- which I essentially copied from last year (thanks Marji):
This is a challenge to copy or create a garment inspired by RTW (ready- to wear) or a designer collection, that can be worn by either a child or adult.
No cutting in to your actual fashion fabric until December 29th. All garment construction should be started and completed within the contest dates, beginning Saturday, December 29 and ending Friday, Feb 29.
Other rules will be developed over the weekend and posted within the next two weeks. But, in the meantime feel free to post:
1. Good style and catalouge sites that you find inspirational
2. Ideas for rules. I want us all to play nice!
3. Match up some patterns to designs if you aren't going to do the contest yourself. Help your sewing sisters out!

Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 2:35 PM Based on previous contests, it looked like a two month contest that ends in February. It looks like last year one month was deemed not enough time to knock it off.
Although, as a bad manager, I did not run the dates by Deepika. ------ Cidell

Here's one I use a lot:
YOOX
What I find so helpful is that you get a good view of the garment by zooming in, and also get to see/zoom the back. They also list most of the details.------ Bubblegum 4 Breakfast Next page>> |

This site is perfect for this contest. They are currently on hiatus until January, but if you click on newsletters and go to the individual numbers each issue is a different designer and how to copy them. ie, what available patterns would work. Not all the links work, but if you start at the last one and work your way down you can find the ones that still work.
And thanks to Cidell for moderating this contest.

Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 4:07 PM There are a couple of Coldwater Creek items I'd like to knock off.
They are, however, not currently on the website. I have pics from an older paper catalog. I'll scan them in later.
How many entries are we allowed to have? ------ Trinity Next page>> |

Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 5:12 PM I love this contest! Of all the contests all year, this one lights a fire under my you know what to get busy.
I am almost caught up with my project board at my real job (yay!) then I'm going to try to stay focused and sew up a storm in 2008.
Here is my first knock-off: linen dress
How cute is that???
I'm kinda worried about hippage since I'm not exacly willow woman.
I think I'll experiment around with Sandra Betzina's techniques to play with grain placement. I have the bodice pattern selected from Burda WOF but keeping my eye out for a suitable skirt pattern to mod with inverted pleats.
Thank you for moderating, Cidell! -- Edited on 12/20/07 5:14 PM -- ------ Leah

Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 5:34 PM Here's something that just caught my eye this week:
Talbot's dress and jacket
Be sure to click on all the views to see at least some of the jacket details and the dress w/o the jacket.
I've got some red wool crepe in the stash; I haven't had time to go surfing through the pattern sites in search of a similar pattern (s).
Wish I'd seen this 6 weeks ago; I'd LOVE to have it finished and worn by now! ;) ------ Lisa -- so much fabric, so little time!

Subject: '08 RTW / Designer Knock Off Challange Date: 12/20/07 8:06 PM I've been drooling over these two dresses; however, they're out of my price range until/unless they go clearance.
I particularly love the neckline of this dress:
Trashy Diva Sweetheart dress
I really love the shoulder ruching and cap sleeves on this one:
Trashy Diva Ashley dress
(I've got a weird thing for shoulder ruching, I've already made the Idit top from BurdaStyle and have the HotPatterns Tie Me Down top in my queue...)
Pattern suggestions for either?
