Date: 1/1/08 11:59 PM My two-week old Designer SE just froze and won't sew. The machine turns on, but the needle won't go down into the fabric. It will move right to left when I change the stitch, and the presser foot goes up and down. The hand wheel is also stuck.
The feed dogs seem locked in the down position, and the bobbin is also in turned 90 degrees (and I can't get the bobbin out). I've pressed buttons, made sure I was in "sewing" mode, looked for all the obvious causes, and have an email into the shop. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and has the miracle cure. I don't want to force it! Please HELP! |

Date: 1/2/08 0:58 AM Wow, some strange happenings. You have probably already checked this but ..are the feed dogs set to the down postion? If so did you try to set them to the up postion? It seems the machine is set for free motion sewing.
I can't imagine why the bobbin won't come out, did you take off the needle plate and see if the thread is hung up underneath?
Sorry, I have no other clue as to what is happening but I hope you get it all figured out. -- Edited on 1/2/08 5:33 PM -- |

Date: 1/4/08 1:12 AM Hi,
Thanks for the good wishes. The dealer told me to bring it in, so I did. Turns out the knife was stuck and the bobbin case was in a weird position. So, they unstuck the knife, but then replaced the whole shebang with the latest hardware upgrade (which they said included a new knife and bobbin).
So, all is right for now. |

Date: 1/4/08 2:15 AM It is good to hear that your machine is ok now but they installed a new knife?? The SE has a knife? Do you mean needle? -- Edited on 1/4/08 2:34 AM -- |

Date: 1/4/08 6:30 AM The machine in question has an automatic thread cutter (top and bottom). An auto cutter would require some sort of knife or blade to cut the thread. |

Date: 1/4/08 11:33 AM Right, got2bjennyg--the dealer called it a "knife" and the machine has an automatic thread cutter that cuts both the top and bottom threads. The upgrade enables the machine to automatically cut jump stitches while embroidering as well. |

Date: 1/4/08 12:43 PM Thanks so much for the explanation. When thinking about knives in machines only a serger comes to my mind. One of my machines (my Q) has an auto thread cutter and I never thought about it having a knife. (What was I thinking..that there was a little man under there cutting with scissors?.. ).
Scuse the edits, my i key seems not to be working.
