Is this a throwback to the eighties?

I rather fancy making this jacket from a Burda plus suit in a striped linen/hemp from Michael's Fabrics. Am I in a time warp here? I'm a size 12 and will grade the pattern down to a size 40. I plan to wear it with linen pants, not skinny because that's not a good look for me but not especially wide either. Fitted at the hips and straight leg down.

My 21yr old neice just visited and was wearing a striped jacket very close in style to your choice, and it looked great on her. She works as an Assoc Producer for BBC News/America in Wash D.C. and considers herself the "height of fashion." (I agree with her.)

Now, because she's a kid, she wore her jacket with a short dropped waist frilly-ish skirt, black tights and buckled ankle boots. But, I think you'd look very stylish with straight leg (not skinny) pants.

It has the "Sewing Workshop" look to me.

It also reminds me of this Onion pattern that ChrisK reviewed. I like the look. :)

It looks like it is 8143. I think it's kind of kewl and artsy. I'd give special consideration to the length of your version, since you are wearing a different pants silhouette. I'm not sure how flattering this length would be with pants falling straight from the hip.

I don't think it is a time warp, but the jacket is very ugly. You asked for opinions, right?

It is kind of baggy and shapeless. Seems like a style that would play well in maybe a traditional Muslim community where modesty is the highest priority?--At least that is the impression I got from the photo.

On the other hand, it certainly looks comfortable and it might be more chic if matched with something less voluminous on the bottom and perhaps, some color.

I don't know if it's a throwback to the 80's, but I think it will make up very nicely in the fabric you've chosen. I think it's quite stylish, personally. Just looked at ChrisK's review pic and I like it.............chic looking, IMO.

If you're going to make up a muslin first, you can try it on with the pants you plan to wear. That way, you'll know for sure how it'll look. Good luck!

Bunz, it's 8143, in the plus section.
