Does anyone know of any place that sells home dec fabric wider than 54"? And will sell to an end user/regular person/not a business? I would like to make a few table cloths without having to piece the fabric together. Thank you!Cherly C.

i think fabric.com sells extra wide fabric. i've bought some from calico corners (i think they are in most big cities). try looking at a home dec fabric shop.

Hi Cherly,

I have never ordered from them, but Home Spun Fabrics seems to specialize in 118" wide fabrics for home dec. They also have a wide variety of notions and instructions, and accept credit cards - no mention of wholesale only.

Good luck!

Regards,

Homespun Fabrics have been around forever and would certainly be a place I would look for wide fabric.

I have used 60 inch fabric (available from many of the fabric webstores) for table cloths. A standard table is 42 inches wide, so with a reasonable hem on each side you still have about an 8 inch drop.

2012 : starting stash 386, net additions 206, used 164, ending stash 428...I'm never going to get in front of this pile of fabric!

If you want a more formal drop but don't have wider fabric, the solution is to have two seams in the tablecloth. I use a flat fell seam; it looks nice on both sides and lays flat, with no raw or loose edges showing.
Cut two lengths of the fabric, each as long as the desired finished length (remember to add a bit for the hem). Cut one of the lengths right down the middle and seam it to the center length. Now trim the two side pieces so the side drop matches the end drop. Hem the whole thing.
On fabrics with patterns, it's important to pattern-match as best as you can to make the seam less noticeable.
Oh, and always remember to prewash!! Most home dec fabrics are meant to be dry cleaned, and often have special finishes that will come off if laundered. Test a small swatch before committing to a fabric.

I just got a Keepsake Quilting catalog today and they sell quilt backing fabric 108" wide. Probably other quilt fabric sellers carry this too.

Hancock Fabrics online sells 72" wide tablecloth fabric that is similar to store purchased tablecloths (100% poly, easy care wash/dry). They have a plain solid poplin and a textured strip solid. Both are 72".

The textured stripe runs the length of the fabric and repeats 4x in the width of the fabric (18" repeat?) It is hard to see the pattern in the fabric, but if you are interested, I can probably find a picture of the tablecloth that I made for my parents 20' table using this fabric. I also made a set of matching napkins. They ended up being 18" square to match the repeat of the stripe. 4 napkins fit across the 72" width with no waste so each napkin had a stripe across the middle of it.

I have an omni stitch machine and I was wondering if anyone knew of some patterns for it or even the machines book.
