Date: 1/15/08 6:57 PM What does BWOF mean?
It is short for Burda World of Fashion, a fashion pattern magazine that originates in Germany but sells in English translations. Many members here have subscriptions. You can order them through Amazon.com or GLP Publishing--google please, I don't have the links.
Why are we sewing from January's issue in February?
We are one month behind because people receive their issues different times of the month. Some get them early on while others don't receive their until mid month.
What is the big dealio about sewing from your BWOF magazines? And why do you need a separate thread? How does this work?
Many subscribers have considered they underutilize their subscriptions which have a considerable subscription cost. We have decided that one of our sewing goals this year is to sew from each issue so as to get some value from the magazine. This can help make a decision on whether to continue subscriptions.
This thread is for the sewalong from Burda WOF starting on Feb 1, 2008. We are sewing from the January 2008 issue. We can choose a pattern from the issue and trace it off prior to the sewalong. I've started this thread now for discussion of the Jan 08 issue, which patterns we'd like to sew up and fabric choices. As February begins, we can post our progress, any questions and link to our reviews!
What if I want to sew from an earlier issue of Burda World of Fashion?
For those who want to sew from earlier BWOF's during the sewalong, please participate! Welcome! I'd be ecstatic if you can insert/provide a link to a scan/photo, similar review or something so we can refer to it. Some people just started their subscriptions and wouldn't be able to look them up. I think this works well especially for months like last November when just about the entire issue was holiday party dresses and some of us don't really need to sew another holiday dress.
Here goes!

Date: 1/16/08 10:27 AM I've traced 108 this am. Do I add the seam allowances to all the areas, but not the CB on the back, or the armholes, or the top shoulder area? I'm having a Duh moment? Thank you. |

Yes, add seam allowances to all the areas including the center back seam (unless it is cut on the fold), armholes, top of shoulders, etc. You'll notice they likely give you a different seam allowance for the hem of the blouse.------ Cidell

Date: 1/16/08 11:27 AM Than you Cidell, I'll add those now. By the way, I visited your blog over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Ordered a few books from your bookshelf reading. They should be here over the next few weeks. |

Date: 1/16/08 11:59 AM I love their blouses in this issue. And, there is that piped jacket that I must have, but my time will be limited in February so I am in if we go with a blouse or something relatively simple.
I have some new EOS white with a silver stripe that I intend to make that front yoked blouse out of.

Date: 1/16/08 2:18 PM I find January's issue very inspiring. I already selected (way too) many patterns from it, mainly blouses : 107, 108 - it's actually already done and my 1st review written about it- 116, 122 but also some pants 118 and the wrap dress 121. There will definitely be some left for February's sew along ;o) |

Date: 1/17/08 5:52 PM I'm torn between blouse 108, blouse 124 and dress 113. I am leaning more towards the dress because I really like it and hardly own any dresses. Not that I would really wear it now...Its COLD here and SNOWING. |
