Hi there,

I am Candice and have done some basic sewing. I want to make my daughter's Easter dress, but when I measured her, she came out a 10.5. The Butterick Pattern I have says that it's "multi-sized" and has the 10.5 option on the outside of the envelope, but I have no idea how to cut it out? The cut lines are all in whole sizes. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Thanks so much,

Candice

That's odd. Which pattern are you using? I've never seen a 10.5 (or any .5) but now I'm interested. Just off the cuff I'd go with the larger size and then take in a bit if needed after an initial pin-fit but that advice is subject to change after seeing the dress.

And welcome to PR!

Looks likethe pattern comes in 2 size ranges .. Girl 7-14 and PLS 10 1/2 to 16 1/2. Check the envelope and see if you inadvertently selected the wrong size range and if the envelope is right but you don't have the plus sizes on the pattern pieces they may have inserted the wrong pattern in the envelope. If the contents are wrong you can return it to the store. I have had more than a few surprises opening a pattern to find something else inside!

Good luck and keep us posted.

OMG I am such an idiot! That's exactly what I did and I already cut the pattern! DARN! That's ok. I'll just buy the other pattern. Thanks so much for pointing that out to me!

As long as you've already cut the pattern, pin it together and try it on your daughter. You may be surprise that it fits.

And, since you are new to sewing ... you are going to make a test/muslin, before you cut into your good fabric, right??

I wasn't going to test it...not a bad idea. Thanks. And I guess I'm not "new" to sewing but definitely a novice. I've been sewing my own diapers since my babe was born and have made simple thing (mai tei wrap, diapers, twirl skirts) but nothing really with a store bought pattern. I find them overwhelming...agh.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely be testing it first.

I did the same dress for my daughter a couple of months ago.
I had purchased a plus size dress by accident and had to take it up a bit.

If you click on my name, then select my review at the upper top left hand corner, you will be able to read my review about the dress. It's the only one I have posted. Please note: how ever you attach the strap in the front, do it in the same way in the back. I didn't like the way the pattern instuctions tell you to do it.
