Date: 3/31/08 0:06 AM I guess that I am the first to post about this- The big ASG conference is in Chicago this year, the week of July 10- July 13. I might be tempted to go because I have a ticket that I need to use, from Southwest Airlines. I would really be more convinced to go, if there were PR members that I could meet up with over there. Plus, it would be my only real trip this year and I could visit my childhood home in Naperville and go back to see the Art Institute. |

Date: 3/31/08 1:27 PM Well, I've been considering this for a while now, but am still waffling...
Bumping the thread so maybe we'll hear from some others.
Thanks for reminding me!

Date: 3/31/08 3:49 PM I went to one a few years ago, and there are some great classes at reasonable rates and lots of vendors. It's worth going to especially if you live in the area. If for some reason you have to bring a husband along there are usually side trips catered for them, so you can have fun. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 3/31/08 8:49 PM Well, I am planning on attending. I downloaded the brochure and I am trying to decide which classes to take and how long to stay. You need to register early to get the classes you want and the best way to do that is by registering online. Hope to see you there.

Date: 4/1/08 8:29 PM I took a look at the online info that came in an ASG email today and was surprised by the cost to attend.
It looks like the least expensive way is to go only one day for about $115.00. That does include some classes, but YIKES!
I was figuring more like $15.00 to get into the expo and then $$ for classes if you wished.
I figure there will also be a charge for parking, tolls on the roads to get there, and then overnight housing if you don't live within easy driving distance.
Am I missing some other options?

Date: 4/1/08 8:54 PM Okay, I am really intrigued by the idea of going to this conference. This is the week that my DH and DD will be away on a church trip and my DS will be at sleepaway camp, so I'd be free to attend. I'd love to hear from others who've attended these ASG events before and if they feel it's worth it. I'd really only be interested in fashion sewing-related classes.
Thanks! |

Date: 4/2/08 12:10 PM I just ran the numbers and estimated that to attend on Thursday and Friday, it would cost me about $500 per day. That includes a $115 workshop, $165 for a single day registration, hotel, airfare and meals.
The classes sound great, but I've never been to anything like this. I'm hoping some others weigh in with their opinions before I plunk down my money. |

Date: 4/2/08 12:33 PM I've signed up for classes Thursday - Sunday. At first I was like Yikes! the price! but then, it does include 2 meals a day, and the hotel I can get a roommate to help split the cost. I've never been to an ASG conference, so I thought I'd dive in and go. I've been wanting to go back to Chicago for a long time. I figure with airfare, hotel, shopping, food, classes, etc., it's about a $2K+ week. But, I also have family there in nearby Park Ridge and up near Wisconsin, so I'm going to extend the trip and visit family. ------ Sue V

Date: 4/2/08 1:22 PM I have only heard great things about the ASG conferences. The focus is on education and the classes should be great. It's unlike Puyallup where there are classes and 45 minute 'seminars' AND a ton of vendors. This is all hearsay of course! I'll be attending vicariously so I'll look forward to your reviews! ------ Patti

Date: 4/2/08 2:11 PM I signed up for a Thursday workshop and Friday classes. It turned out to be less than I expected to register, so that's a good thing.
Yippee, something to look forward to! It would be nice if we PR members could meet up somewhere.... |
