Date: 4/16/08 11:55 AM Hey Gang,
I just finished sewing a vogue dress, I slipped it on to check the fit, and the zipper pull came off!! Now I'm stuck in the dress. It's a center slot zipper in the back of thress dress. I'd much rather NOT just pull the zipper apart as i would have to re-sew the whole darn thing. Is there a way I can get the zipper pull back on the dress (it's just me at home) without having to destry the zipper?
HELP!!
Kim

Date: 4/16/08 12:22 PM Oh, my, I wish I had a suggestion for you. But the only thing I can think of is to pull it apart, starting from the top, until you can wiggle out of the dress. Then afterwards you can see if you can get the pull back on and get the teeth to grip properly again.
Cute dress! Although I don't know if it would be comfortable to sit on the flower designs.

Date: 4/16/08 12:30 PM I am living with a lingerie bag that has lost the pull.
I take a long flower head pin and insert it through the pull holders to unzip it. Get someone back there with a pin and try it! ------ Leah

Date: 4/16/08 12:33 PM oh, wow. I see. You lost the whole zipper head thing.
And you are alone, huh? Boy, you really got yourself into a bind this time!
Can you get your arms inside and turn the dress around so the zipper is in the front? ------ Leah

Date: 4/16/08 12:48 PM Unless you can do Leora's suggestion, I can't think of a thing you can do except find a person to fix the zipper while you are in the dress. Do you have any sewing buddies, neighbor's, a dry cleaner who does repairs or alterations down the street or a tailor shop near by? The dress is cute and appears to be ready to wear. If you can get to a dry cleaner which does repairs, they surely would help you. Let us know what you decide to do. |

Date: 4/16/08 1:09 PM I would pull the zipper apart to get out of the dress because you'd probably spend more time trying to get the zipper pull back on than you would taking the zipper off and putting on a new one.

Date: 4/16/08 1:31 PM You have taken care of by now I guess, but I was thinking. Do you have any thing wire in the house. Like in hubbies tool supplies. Thin, but firm. Put a hook in the wire at the very end. It would give you length your arm doesn't have in this situation I think. Look at the back of your dress with the aid of a mirror and try to catch the "0" of what's left of the zipper to try to pull it down to wiggle out of it. Boy I'm glad it didn't happen to me. Good Luck!! |
