Date: 4/18/08 5:46 PM Are their any sewing buddies out there? We all have people who we call our friends but not all of us have sewing friends close to home. Is there anybody in Phoenix who gives fitting lessons? I really need the help! Other than that I think this is a great forum to meet sewing friends, so how 'bout it? Anybody in Phoenix who loves to sew? |

Date: 4/19/08 1:57 AM Hi there!
I see you're fairly new here, so welcome to PR! Everyone's friendly and helpful. You'll learn tons here, I know I have!
I also live in the valley, but don't know anyone who sews, which is a little lonely as there is no one I can talk sewing with
Anyhoo, I don't know who gives fitting classes, but maybe some of us can get together and help each other out?? |

Date: 4/19/08 12:05 PM Hi there! I am in Gilbert and I am the only one that I know that sews. I am in desperate need of fitting classes as well but haven't been sucessful in finding any. I did pick up a copy of Nancy Zieman's book Fitting Finesse and I am working on a pattern with the pivot and slide method right now. I hope it turns out! I bought some awesome knit fabric at SAS and I hope I am not wasting it. |

Date: 4/19/08 1:04 PM How very exciting! How very familiar, as I am lonely sewer only in that nobody seems to appreciate my fine accomplishments as much as me! I am trying to learn FBA from Fast Fit by Sandra Betzina (awesome), Fit for Real People, (which has a lot of tissue fitting that I dont feel is working for me) and The Perfect Fit by Singer. All very useful I am sure, but I am now aware that all my reading is making this FBA a bigger chore than it needs to be. I want some hands on advice, well maybe not hands-on the FBA but you know what I mean I live in Mesa and would love to meet to fit patterns and such. I think you can email me personally if you are interested. |

Date: 4/19/08 3:46 PM Hi, I'm new in Phoenix and have heard many things about SAS, although more negative than positive comments. The most amazing thing I heard is that they sell fabric "by pound". Is it true? |

Date: 4/19/08 3:53 PM we were just in phoenix a few weeks ago. mesa, actually. anyway, my MIL lives in a retirement complex (leisure world), and they have all sorts of clubs. there is a sewing club, maybe you guys could give them a call and ask if there is someone that would like to teach? or try contacting the ASG and find a local group.
i lived there for 2 years (1990-1992), and while it's a great place to visit, i hated living there. i am NOT a hot weather girl! SAS was always fun to go to. ------ Linda

Date: 4/19/08 4:21 PM Where were all of you a year ago?
SAS does sell fabric by the pound. I haven't been in many years, but I think one of the stores had a fire in it this past year.
So does anybody have a plan? ------ "framed" was taken |

Date: 4/19/08 4:47 PM I'm just going to add this link in case anyone is interested. Phoenix Area ASG meetings
I am not a member of ASG and I have never been to a meeting. They don't seem to concentrate on garment sewing, but I could be wrong. Just wanted to offer the information. ------ "framed" was taken |

Date: 4/19/08 5:23 PM I have only been to the Phoenix SAS once and it is definitely worth the trip. I bought about 7 yards of fabric for around $15. One of the 2 yards of fabric that I bought was only $2 because it didn't weigh alot and was only 1.99/pound. It is kind of overwhelming though - too many choices. I heard there is one in Tempe too? Will have to check that out. |

Date: 4/19/08 5:34 PM Hi Linda,
I probably know which retirement community and sewing club you were talking about. Unfortunately, they meet in the mornings of weekdays when I have to work. BTW, I used to be a "cheesehead". :) |
