I have an old(late 70's) one piece suit pattern that I'd love to modify into a tankini.
You might just convince me to start on it soon. ------ Formerly sew*itch |

Date: 5/20/08 7:16 PM I have patterns, fabric, serger videos (from the 89s & 90s) & would be interested. I especially would like to master the serger & elastic applications. |

Date: 5/20/08 10:39 PM I'm not Big Dog but I'd be ready anytime. I've already tried putting elastic in an old suit that was unfinished. Not the best success.
AND I watched a video done by Nancy Nix-Rice that made it all look very easy! I hope it just takes practice. . . . .which I'm up for. I've gone thru all my fabric & patterns, found all my books etc. The only thing I need to find is the swimsuit elastic. I'd like to get a roll of it so I'll have plenty of yards for all the practice I'm going to be doing!
I have a new serger & coverstitch machine so this is a good project for me. Plus I can use the suits in the hot tub & sauna. The hot tub chemicals take a toll on suits pretty quick.
How about you? |

When would you be up for it?[/quote] With the holiday weekend coming up and a couple tourneyments probably in about 2 weeks, would that work out for you?
I've made the suit twice in the past and think it should be easy enough to chop off the bottom and use a bottom from another pattern to make my idea work. The idea kept me awake for an hour last night, but I have it sewn in my head now ------ Formerly sew*itch |

Date: 5/21/08 9:27 AM My gorgeous husband is in dire need of a swimsuit that doesn't reach to his knees but doesn't look like something out of the Undergear catalog (if you don't know what that is, check the website--but I wouldn't recommend it if you're at work!)
So... If I can find a men's square-cut swimsuit pattern, I'm in!
(I'd also love to find a two-piece pattern for my DD, who's a DDD and can't find ANYTHING in the shops to cover her frontage...) |

Date: 5/21/08 9:49 AM Starting in a couple of weeks works fine for me.
I have my patternKS3239 I'm going to make view A top and View D bottom. I also have some fabric. And I believe I have the elastic. I think I'll go ahead & make a muslin for fit.
I've never tried making a swimsuit before, so any words of advise would be quite welcome.

Date: 5/21/08 12:12 PM count me in. I bought my daughter a swimsuit, but she needs more than one! And I'd like to make one for myself from one of my vintage patterns!
I've already made my husband several swimsuits (hot pants and a (gasp!) thong!) using patterns from the sttichboy website (may not be safe for work especially some of the links) ------ -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Date: 5/21/08 3:53 PM I'll join in as well.
I only just recently made swimsuits for all three of my daughters. I had never done a swimsuit in my life before those, and I was actually pleased with my results.
I'm about to sew this tankini for myself. I'm a little nervous about this as I'll have to put cups in. Hopefully it will go well. It will be the first adult swimsuit I've attempted.
I've been sick lately, so I haven't got the pattern traced out yet. I'm hoping to get it traced out in the next couple days. ------ Jennifer
