Date: 6/12/08 7:59 PM One of my co-workers brought me her sewing machine that hasn't been used in years. She said her husband bought it for her 15 years ago. It is a Brother VX 809. She made one set of curtains and a baby outfit. She said that one of her sister-in-laws made her wedding dress on the machine, the needle broke and it hasn't been touched since. Now her daughter who is going into high school is interested in sewing after having jr high home ec. She brought me the machine to see if it still works. I put in a needle, oiled a few places and it seems to sew fine. There is no manual, one presser foot, no brush or screw driver. It has straight and zigzag with a reverse. On the stitch length dial there is an "F"
which I can't quite figure out. There is a rubber circle that pops off where the feed dog lever is on my other machines, but there doesn't appear to be any lever. My question is, does any one have one of these machines? What attachments, if any, did it come with? Can it make button holes? The daughter is interested in craft sewing so this might be enough, but it would need at least a zipper/piping foot. I found a threading guide for free online and could get the manual for her, but if it only does the very basics, I can show her that without putting out the money. ------ Svetlana |

Date: 10/4/12 10:07 PM Did you ever find out about this machine? I have a chance to get one on auction and I was thinking about it. Since I can't see/handle the machine, I have a few questions: Is it heavy? Usually means that it's all metal and not with a lot of plastic like the new bad machines. Do you know where it was made? Is it a heavy duty machine? If you get any of these questions answered, I would appreciate it. |
