Date: 6/29/08 10:28 AM I am thinking of buying a second hand Bernina without all the extras, but one that is reliable and does passable button holes. I have seen a Bernina 707, but cannot find out much about the model. Can anyone help please?
I already own a computerised Bernina , which is great, but sometimes I feel its straight stitch is a bit lacking. Fingers crossed someone out there can help! |

Date: 7/12/08 9:27 AM I recently owned one of these, but sold it on. I bought it from it's original owner, and had it serviced and electrically checked. The mechanic said they are great machines, popular with free machine embroiderer's. The cam gear was cracked and the bobbin winder was solid, which tends to happen as the machine ages. This machine was from 1971. It sewed a beautiful straight stitch, and there were zig zag, stretch, scallop and a couple of other stitches but can't remember which. The buttonhole foot was unusual, with a little measure on the back. Never tried out the buttonholes! There is no knee lift, but maybe this could be added? The stitches are changed by turning knobs and moving levers, and this takes a bit of practice to get used to. It also does reverse stitching. No needle threader and no needle up/down. It certainly sewed extremely fast!!!!! It was very heavy too. I bought it in a moment of weakness, as I have several other machines, but couldn't resist this one. However, I had a really good offer for it for twice what I had spent on it, [I sold it for $400] so sold it on, as I said. The lady who bought it wanted it for embroidery, and says it is absolutely perfect for her. Hope this is of help to you. Eileen |

Date: 1/7/09 8:08 AM Thanks for your comprehensive reply - only just found it - my fault. At the moment I have not pursued the idea as current machine behaving itself, but the 707 sounds ideal as long as it has not worked too hard - dream on!
Thanks once more EOG |
