Okay, it's time for the One Fabric-Knit Contest. Going by the fabulous entries in the One Fabric-Silk and One Fabric-Wool contests, a lot of us are challenged (in a good way) with having specific fabric requirements. The rules for this Contest are as follows:

The fabric used in your project must be a knit. No wovens are allowed for this contest. (Trims, closures, or embellishments are allowed.) Hand knitted garments, while wonderful, are not included in this contest

The item should be wearable. Home dec is not included, nor are reconstructed garments.

Item must be made during the month of July. (Pattern can be one that you have used before.) Entries must be completed and reviewed by July 31, 11:59 PM Eastern Time (as posted on this website).

Only one item per person can be entered in this contest. If making an entire ensemble from a pattern, the entire ensemble is considered one item. However, you may enter one piece such as a skirt or jacket.

As with all new contests, in order to enter you must have been a member of Pattern Review for at least 90 days by the contest starting date. Free or paying membership qualifies. (So in this case, April 2nd or earlier qualifies.)

Picture is required (for voting).

Prizes: There are two prizes in this contest, both by reader votes. Voting begins August 1st and ends August 10th, 2008. Prizes have been sponsored by lucysfabrics.com

First Prize: $75 Gift Certificate

Second Prize: $50 Gift Certificate

I'm not sure if Deepika has set up the entry for this contest yet, but give her a chance - she just got home from having WAY too much fun in Baltimore.

This is my first time managing a contest, so hopefully I'll be able to answer any questions you have. Feel free to PM me if you need anything.

Questions were asked about the definition of knits, and the contest committee supplied this link which gives helpful information on what constitutes a stretch knit vs. a stretch woven. Hope it helps.

I have one question. I have top pattern that I plan on making multiple tops from but only one is allowed. Do I do two separate reviews one for the contest and a non contest review, instead of updating the same review for each top?

And thanks for moderating the contest

Happy sewing

If this is like the other contests, you just make one review and note which is the "contest" top.

Karen,

Does the picture of the finished garment have to be modeled by the intended wearer? I ask this because the garment I plan to make is a knit dress that I can wear postpartum (I'm 35 weeks tomorrow!) Since I will still be very pregnant by the end of the contest, I'm not sure if I will be able to model it effectively.

TIA,
Jennifer

Jennifer, if it's not meant to fit you just yet, then I think photographing it on your dress form is just fine. But update your review once you have the baby so we can see how it looks on you!

I'm sure that will be #1 on her list.
