My least favorite part of machine embroidery is hooping. I have a Bernina 630E. I hate my hoop. I am trying to accurately line up the fabric, on grain in the hoop with a specific placement. Anyone use the hooping aids that are available and are they any good? Does anyone know of a tutorial for hooping with or without an aid? Is is possible that I could learn to love my hoop?

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Embroidery Library's Projects site has some good tips:

This may sound simplistic but one of the things I use are those small dots you get at the office supply store. I mark them with cross marks on the sheets they come on so that I can be sure they are square. Then I put them on the article to be embroidered where I want the center of the design to be. I have a magnifying glass and so can line up grains. Then I put the item in the hoop and use a straight edge to be sure the marks on the hoop line up with the lines on the the dot. You have to be a little careful because the dots don't stick too well. I have pinned them on occasion.

I mark the center of my design with a pin, then use either the air soluble pen or chalk wheel to make the cross-hairs on the fabric, then center the cross-hair in the hoop. I've tried the stickerd as well and didn't have much luck with getting them to stay put. If I get the fabric a tiny bit off center I adjust the center point at the machine.
