I recently discovered the AMC series "Mad Men" after hearing all the award hype about it. Time Warner had all of last season's episodes on their On Demand channel, so I watched every one. I'm hooked. I love the actors, writing, plot, etc. This is the best series since the Sopranos and Six Feet Under went off the air, IMHO. I even read my husband's TV Guide this week because it had a picture of two of the lead actors on the cover! Since it's set in the '60's, I feel like I'm reliving my youth. Is anybody else as besotted as I am?

I agree with you completely!! I had heard wonderful things about the show so I bought the DVD set of the first season. I LOVE it!! I remember the 60's too so the show brings back lots of memories, especially the clothing. The packaging for the box set is really cool too--a silver cigarette lighter! Back then smoking was almost glamorous.

Oh yes. DH and I have seen all of the episodes and wouldn't dare miss one. It is a very well written show. The new season premiere seems to be expanding the view into more characters' personal lives. I'm excited to see what happens.

I find this a terrific, thoughtful show. It is my current favorite. The writer has the wisdom to take his time, to let the storyline for each episode play out, without needing to "punch" it at you cartoon-style.

Yes, I'm hooked on Mad Men, too. I've been watching it ever since its very first episode last year. It's interesting that the second season jumped to 1962 (the first season was set in 1960) the height of the Kennedy era, and there are several touches of Camelot. In one scene, Jackie O appears on each of the main character's TV sets. She's giving her famous White House tour, a program I saw when I was just a child. In another scene the ad exec's blonde wife, Betty Draper, is jumping horses and dressed just the way Jackie did when she took part in the sport.

I've read interviews with Matt Weiner, the series creator. He's quite intense and wasn't even born in the 1960s. He also worked on the Sopranos as a writer and producer.

I grew up in NYC, where the show is set. Back in 1968 my class toured a famous Madison Avenue ad agency Doyle Dane Bernbach and we watched TV commercials on the first video screen projector I'd ever seen. It seemed like a glamourous world, and Mad Men definitely captures that glamour. For me, the show is like stepping into a time machine.

Yup...since the very beginning. *Love* the clothes . . . reminds me why I took "Secretarial Practice" in high school not that I've had much use for that shorthand that took me two years to learn...

That last episode, when the wife had the cigarette and the gun in the yard was just the best...

My girlfriend raves about this show. I spent some time watching snips on youtube. The garments are wonderful as is the hairstyles. I'll be renting the episodes from Blockbuster next week. I wish it was on youtube like project runway. I'm still not willing to pay for cable.

We just started watching it on AppleTV. It's great, the clothes are lovely.

But...I am so disturbed by the treatment of women, the attitudes of the men and the women. I know it's probably historically accurate, but I'm 33 and just can't really imagine it. I guess I never really did imagine how awful it was, despite reading about it and hearing about it.

I guess it's just shocking to me, and it makes me so incredibly grateful to the women who worked so hard to earn a better place for women in our world.

In 1973 (fresh out of high school) I went on an interview for secretarial work..the pinhead *actually* asked me to stand up and turn around so he could "get a look at me" . . . and I was such a dopey 17-year-old, I did it - I thought he wanted to see my outfit I'd made :)

Things have changed quite a bit, trust me . . .
