Anyone know of a pattern close to this dress? IM Shirtdress. The tie belt is obscuring the fact that it has a "band" pieced at the waist. The skirt gathers are actually on each side of center front/back. I was trying on styles last night and was quite suprised at how flattering it was on my body versus on the hanger. I found some patterns that could be morphed, but none with an inset waist band.

Any suggestions welcome!

I see from your profile that you're a beginner, but if you have time and feel up to the task, this would be a simple pattern change if you started with sometime similar.

You could maybe check out a book on drafting at the library and get some ideas. Then come back here for more direction.

I'd say the band would be more like a fitted style line at the waist, and those are fairly easy to do. Adding fullness around a style line to create gathers is also easy.

I'm sure that you'd get lots of help here if you were to try this kind of project. But you have to feel adventurous!

Hi Kisha, I know it isn't a shirtdress style, but I've been looking at the V1026 (Badgley Mischka) dress which has an inset band at the waist too. You might take a look at it and see if you could do something to make it more casual. You can see how they've used a couple methods of contrasting for embellishment to show it off!! Hope this gives you some ideas...Kate, Astoria, Oregon
