Subject: Sewing for Children Contest Date: 8/21/08 4:19 PM Ok,
It's getting close. The Sewing for Children contest will start September 1 and end September 30, 2008. Here are the offical rules.
Sewing for Children:
September 1 - September 30, 2008
This contest is a chance to sew something wonderful a garment, home decor, or craft item, as long as its sewn -- for a baby or a child (your own or someone elses, including items sewn for charity).
For the purposes of this contest, a child is a human from newborn to age 9.
The rules for this contest:
1) Sew a garment, home decor item or craft intended for wear or use by a child under 9 years of age or for decorating a baby's or child's room. Doll clothing is not included in this contest unless sewn along with a matching child's outfit.
2) Items may be based on commercial, free public-use or self-drafted patterns. Patterns may be new, never sewn before, or TNT.
3) The contest period runs September 1 - September 30, 2008. Submitted item must be started on or after September 1st, 2008 and completed and reviewed by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on September 30th, 2008.
Patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the contest (September 1). Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.
4) More than one item can be entered in the contest.
5) Final products may be pictured on a dressform, worn by the garments intended owner, or photographed in situ. Please consult with the contest moderator if none of these alternatives is feasible for you.
6) Open to all members (free or paying) who joined Pattern Review prior to June 2nd 2008 (90 days prior to the start of the contest).
Winner: to be determined by highest number of member votes.
Voting guidelines - points to keep in mind when you vote: In no particular order: adorable-ness (how cute is it?), garment construction / skill of design and craftsmanship compared to the declared skill level of the entrant, designer creativity, and presentation. Voting will begin on October 1st and end on October 10th.
Prizes: $150 and $75 gift certificates from SewBaby.com

Subject: Sewing for Children Contest Date: 8/21/08 4:23 PM Hi,
I'm going to be managing the Sewing for Children Contest. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Please keep in mind that this is the first contest that I've ever managed and be patient with me. I'll try my best to answer questions as they come up.
So, does anyone have any plans yet?

Rosie This kind of quilt I can. An EASY one. To be used and dragged around.
The baby's mother took her baby quilt to college with her (hidden in a pillowcase behind the pillow.) This quilt is important to her. ------ blog: goodworks1.wordpress.com

Subject: Sewing for Children Contest Date: 8/21/08 8:54 PM This is a great contest idea, and so perfectly timed for me - I was thinking of making a jacket for my son in the lined jacket contest, but have not even started, ( I was a bit overwhelmed by other people's wonderful tailoring techniques) now I can put it off to September, thank you! |

Subject: Sewing for Children Contest Date: 8/21/08 9:58 PM Welcome MelissaB and Kbenco,
Yep, MelissaB, four children will certainly give you a lot of opportunities to come up with entries.
Kbenco, is the jacket going to be tailored? I've never tailored anything, so I'm interested in seeing what you make. I know fall is coming here in the U.S. (I'm in Ohio where some of the trees are already turning colors), but I thought it was going to be getting warmer in Australia? Do you have a cooler spring?
Goodworks, does the quilt involve putting little pieces of fabric together in a pattern? Or are you quilting a solid piece of fabric. Was that clear? I’ve seen quilting done in decorative patterns on a piece of fabric that wasn’t pieced.
