Date: 8/21/08 8:08 PM Pattern Stash Contest
September 1, 2008 - October 31, 2008
This contest is your chance to use all those patterns you've been collecting but haven't had the opportunity to use yet.
Here are the rules:
1. Enter only those items which have been sewn from patterns which are in your stash AND you haven't used these patterns before. The idea is to encourage each other to use those patterns we bought but never used.
2. You can enter apparel or craft items as long as you SEW them.
3. Pattern Stash is defined as the patterns you have in your possession prior to 2 weeks before the contest starts, In other words, the pattern must have been in your stash prior to August 18, 2008.
4. You may only enter one item from each pattern. The goal here is to try different patterns that we have not used before.
5. Since this is a pattern stash contest, patterns should be new, unused, prior to the start of the contest. Fabric may be prepped, preshrunk, however patterns should be untouched.
6. Downloaded patterns or self drafted patterns may be used providing they were downloaded or drafted prior to August 18, 2008.
7. Patterns from BWOF, Patrones, KnipMode, Ottobre, etc may be used providing the issue of the magazine is July '08 or earlier. However, you may only enter 4 garments, of distinct types, from any one issue, and they must be patterns you haven't made before. The goal here is to open and use as many issues as you have.
8. For each item made from an unused pattern, give yourself one point. Winner will be the person who uses the most number of patterns.
9. The contest period runs September 1 - October 31, 2008. Submitted item must be started on or after September 1st, 2008 and completed and reviewed by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on October 31th, 2008.
10. Open to all members (free or paying) who joined Pattern Review prior to June 2nd 2008 (90 days prior to the start of the contest).
Clarifications:
-If you ordered a pattern August 1 but it doesn't arrive til August 20th, you may not use it for this contest. Patterns must be in your possession, not the possession of the Postal Service.
-Vintage patterns that you've purchased but not used will count. The fact that some previous owner may have used the pattern already is irrelevant to this contest.
-The template for item entry will ask for yardage used. You may enter the yardage, however it will have no bearing on the winner. The winner will be determined by the number of items entered.
Prizes: First Prize: $75 Gift Certificate. Second Prize: $25 Gift Certificate. Both prizes are sponsored by LanetzLiving.net

Date: 8/21/08 9:58 PM Sweet!! Lisa and I have been waiting for the rules to get posted!! Now I just have to pick out patterns!!!
Question: You could pre-wash fabric for the Fabric Stash contest. Can you cut out and iron your pattern pieces (no alterations, but cut them) before the start? -- Edited on 8/21/08 10:01 PM -- ------ www.pinkededges.com |

Date: 8/21/08 10:06 PM ok, who had the idea of putting this AND the sewing for children at the same time??? LOL I think some of the things might qualify, but others won't since they are patterns that the kiddos love.
I will make sure to only enter the ones that are new patterns to me.
Question though....what about if you were given an object and told to make new ones, using the old pieces as the patterns?? This is something that I have never done/a pattern that I've never used.....

Date: 8/21/08 10:24 PM According to Rule #5, patterns must remain untouched until the contest begins on Sept. 1st. No cutting, no ironing, no prep work. However, feel free to pre-wash and prepare your fabric before Sept. 1st. ------ Bonnie

Date: 8/21/08 10:29 PM Question/Clarification of Rule 4: What if a pattern contains multiple garments? I understand I wouldn't make two dresses from the same pattern, even with slight variations. But if my untouched pattern envelope contains a top and pants, neither of which I have made before, can I submit both?
And, just to make things complicated...
if a wardrobe pattern has top, pants, skirt, cardigan, and I've only made the skirt, are the other garments acceptable for the contest? Or none at all because I've already reviewed that pattern number?
Sorry. I've been feeling lately like my purpose in life is to make other people miserable, so I thought I'd bring a little of that here...
also, yay gelbean for volunteering! -- Edited on 8/21/08 10:30 PM -- |

Date: 8/21/08 10:48 PM The way I read rule #4 is that you can only make one item per pattern, meaning 1 item per envelope. So if the pattern envelope included pants, skirt, top and dress, you could only make one of those items. That is just how I read it. I will forward your question to the Contest Committee and let you know the final word on this.

Date: 8/21/08 10:48 PM OK, thanks. I'm in. I'm going to try to make up some of the things I've been planning to make for myself but haven't had a chance to yet. Skirts especially, but if I'm quick enough maybe also some pants etc.

I am not ignoring you. I have forwarded you question to the Contest Committee and will let you know what they decide. IMO, this one could go either way. ------ Bonnie
