I haven't checked Mccalls, Butterick or Burda yet (mostly because I get lost on Burda's site, and Mccall.com is having issues this morning), but has anyone seen either a spiderman costume pattern, or something that could be made into one (slim fit bodysuit, maybe a mask)?

My son has kind of had an obsession with Spiderman for a while, so although he keeps saying he wants to wear last year's costume again this year, I figure it might be a good idea to at least have some idea of where to get the pattern, just in case.

Also, I'm boycotting ebay on the grounds that I can't pick the same password more than once, and I can't remember what I set it to (because I can't use any of my old passwords, I keep coming up with things I can't remember later), so I prefer a non-eBay solution, if possible.

Thanks!

i have made 2 spiderman costumes, one for my husband, and one for my son. for my son, i used a wetsuit pattern (kwik sew has one) and just color blocked it in the right design. my husband's was made years ago (oh my, 1992 or 1993?), and i think i used a batman costume pattern. anyway, whatever it was, it was a unitard style.

my advice: put the zipper in the front so that he can go to the bathroom easily and on his own. there are superhero costumes in most of the big 3 patterns, you'll be able to find a cowl pattern to modify. for the eyes, i used silk organza, and appliqued the black outline around it. tulle would probably be easier to see through, but would also tear easier (this was for my husband and we were going to bars. i had made superhero costumes for a bunch of us and we were the justice league. i didn't make a cowl for my son).

sorry, i don't have pictures.

Thanks! Simplicity is supposed to have a free ninja mask on their website, but the link was broken last time I checked. I'll definitely look into the Kwik Sew wetsuit patterns should the need arise. The ambitious part of me thinks I should embroider the web on, but the practical side of me is telling me that fabric marker will achieve a similar effect, and it probably won't fit him next year anyway.

if you embroider the web on, you need to be sure you allow for stretch (so maybe a zig zag stitch?). we drew it on with a sharpie.
