I have finally decided I need an ironing press for fusing interfacing. I re-read all the threads here that I could find on PR and decided a dry press was the way to go.....Specifically a simplicity sp100 or sp100B (the newer model).

Have searched high and low on the net and locally to find one.....some one-line vendors (e.g. allbrands) say they are out of stock until November.....others just say...not in stock

I finally found an online vendor (sewing supply company) that seemed to have this model and ordered it online. They however called me within an hour or so to tell me that this was a drop ship item from the vendor and the vendor was out of the item until December (I hope you are seeing a thread here). Order cancelled by me.

SewLiz I think it was got an Elna, but I can't find an Elna vendor online that has one listed.....No local Elna dealer has one that I can find.

I might add there are plenty of steam ironing presses out there....saw one at Hancock's the other night.....but I gather because of the variability of steam and the holes for the steam to come out...that this is not what I want for fusing.

Does anyone know what is happening to dry ironing presses and can anyone help me with a vendor that might have one that is a *reliable brand* in stock?

Thanks, ML

Good question. I'd like info, too.

I bought this Elna one from Allbrands a couple of years ago, but paid much less for it (about $200.00 U.S. ). It is a dry press, to get steam you spray the item with water. Interesting that they only have a refurbished one listed. I really like it and can't imagine having to apply interfacing any other way now.

I see that AllBrands has this Simplicity model that seems to have the features you want. I don't own this model and have no opinions, good or bad, regarding the quality; just noted that this is an actual dry press.

I'm assuming the steam holes are not desired for interface application, and that's why you wouldn't want to use a steam press without the steam.

That's exactly been my problem...I find them listed, but no-one has a new one in stock....Either Elna or Simplicity.....

Guess I could try ebay, but that has not been my favorite way to buy things....I know, I know I might should get over it...another thread all together....

Any info would be appreciated.....ML

I have an Elna Alize I bought this spring. I paid around 180 for a refurbished one. I couldn't find one in stock. I would be leary about paying $300 for a refurbished one.

You could email Nancy Erickson and see if she stocks them. I know she has offered them for sale to her subscribers.

ETA - have you tried online stores like BB&Beyond, Target, WalMart? I searched just now and WalMart & Target had several, BB&B a couple including the miele mangle(!!!)

I found an older Simplicity one at the Salvation Army store for all $4.00. It was $8.00, but it was half price day.

If you have a local freecycle chapter, you may want to post a wanted item, or if you have another place in your community where you can post wanted ads you may just be in luck.

My dealer, here in BC Canada does have presses, I do not know if they are steam or dry as I already have mine.

Steam press in Victoria BC My dealer does stock used equipment but does not list it on their website, you could call and ask if they have a used dry press in stock.

Thanks all....I took Doris' suggestion and tried the big online retailers.....found several steam presses, but from this board have thought that DRY was the way to go for fusing because of the control of water and the lack of holes to imprint your fabric/interfacing that would occur with the steam holes.

Just found a dry press at Walmart online (Duh) supposedly in stock...ordered same....we'll see if they have the same backorder problem the other vendors seem to have...I will report back when and if it comes (fingers crossed), ML

How odd that there aren't any new ones available! I bought my Elna Alize through ebay from sewingusa.com and it was new, not refurbished, for just under $200. Now sewingusa's website has a blank page where their elna presses are supposed to be. That's too bad, their service was great.

I hope Walmart comes through for you! I like my press and I like not having the steam option. A water reservoir seems like a problem waiting to happen and I like the completely flat press surface. Let us know what you think when you get your press.
