My new Bernina 830 is sitting in my sewing room this morning. It's been a LOOONG 4 month wait and I can hardly believe yesterday finally came. I was at the dealer almost all day. They were still getting everything logged in and ready and then the tech spent over two hours going over all the functions to be sure everything was balanced, etc. Then I spent an hour with him going over all the threading, bobbin, cleaning etc. I didn't get home with her until after 8:30 last night.

I've only run a few stitches so far and later today I hope to get some pictures with her little sister White Pearl and Grandma 1260QPE. The size difference is just incredible!

There are so many features that Bernina has hardly touched on in their advertising. Did you know this machine has 7 step motors and 2 main motors! The dual feed actually runs on it's own motor so unlike the Pfaff which is mechanically run, it is a true differential dual feed and can be adjusted independently of the feed dogs.

A complete review is a long way off...I want to be sure to be complete and fair when I finally post it. Right now I'm just on cloud nine and obviously haven't had time to explore and test 99% of the features.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,
Best Wishes,
Darlene

I can't wait to hear how it is to use. The 830 is not an option for me now but boy do I lust after it. I have serious machine envy. Well, maybe not so much b/c I do LOVE my Bernina 170 PQE. Still, the gizmos on the 830 look so cool. Please, keep letting us know how it goes for you.

Darlene, you lucky girl! We had an in-depth review of the 830 last week and, boy, is it amazing! So put it through its paces and let us know how it performs.

I forgot to mention that if you have any questions about the machine or features, please ask away. I know we've all had some questions that just weren't addressed on the various Bernina websites. I'll be glad to check it out on the machine and let you know "for sure"...

So far I've set up the accessories, wound a bobbin, replaced the needle and told the machine which one I put in so it can remind me, and am currently testing the BSR and I have discovered I can't out-run it! No more BEEEEP, you're sewing too fast dummy! Well that's not exactly what the old BSR said, but ....it's what it meant! : )

Happy Thanksgiving,
Darlene

Thanks,
Darlene

How exciting for you -- congratulations. I'm really intrigued that your machine will remember which needle is in. I'm constantly forgetting and having to toss out good needles just b/c I don't know what they are. What a cool feature!

For those of us that have to still remember our needles, well i got myself a tomato pincushion and marked each section for different needle types. Then in each section I wrote the sizes in.Now if i have a needle that still has life in it,I stab it in the appropriate place, and the needle that is currently in the machine is marked with a glass head pin. That way I always know what needle I'm using.I'm also thinking about marking the shaft with a sharpie pen,A little band for a small amount of use,and more marking if it's had more use. That way I should(in theory)remember if it's had 1 hour or 4 hours of use just by looking at the coloured band.

Darlenes method on her machine soooooooooo much better, but the chances of me EVER having an 830 are pretty much non existent . But I'm sure I'll survive without it

Congratulations! Good for you. Be happy with your machines. I saw the machine for the first time last week. I expected it to be long, but it was also taller than most machines I have seen. I was impressed by the sheer volume. And the features. I'm buying that lotto ticket today...

Oh Wow!! Congrats on this great purchase!!!

I'm drooling just thinking about it!! That IS my dream machine. You are lucky the dealer spent so much time with you and everything was thoroughly checked out. Right now I'm wondering if I like sewing machines more than actual sewing??!!
