Does anyone know if there is a way to format and use a regular USB stick in order to transfer designs from computer to machine? Or is there something special about the Bernina USB stick that makes it a required purchase in order to use this feature on machines that will accept a USB stick.

I use a non-Bernina usb stick. I would just transfer a file or so to the ones you have and try them in the machine. I think some people think that everything associated with the machine should have a Bernina label on it. Some usb sticks work better than others but I have used 3 different brands in my 200 so far. Good luck!

HI, I'm a new ME'r and own a Viking Designer SE LE. I'm having a terrible time transferring files from the computer to the sewing machine to do embroidery. Can anyone help me please? When I open the files on the sewing machine there is a question mark on the folders and I can't open them. I have gone thru step by step in the user guide etc. but to no avail. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Patti, I have tried a few different USB sticks. None of them are working! I have no trouble using the USB sticks to transfer designs from one computer to another. No trouble transfering designs from computer to machine. The machine will not take designs from USB stick directly. So from what you are saying. You can save a design and transfer directly to you machine on a non Bernina stick and you did not have to do anything special.

Patty, I have the Designer SE as well. There is software that should have come with your machine that you need to install in your computer. Be sure to install drivers to each usb port you will be using. I bought my designer se used from the dealer and for some reason she didn't give me the software so I had to go back in and have her install it. Have you already installed your software?

All the Sandisk Cruzer sticks work with the Bernina machines, at least with the 730. I haven't tried them with my 630. I have a Seagate 40 gig USB drive that also works.

On the Sandisk sticks, you may need to remove the U3 software before it works, there are instructions on their website.

CJ, thanks for clarifying the USB issue. I guess I've just been lucky and mine are Sandisks.

What CJ said. I had a 630E before I upgraded to the 730E and used the SanDisc Cruzer USB stick on my 630E with no problem. I did have to remove the U3 program from the stick first.
