Today I got to play with my friend's machine today; a White 782. It looks like it came off the "show room floor", it was in that great shape.

But there's a problem. She bought a walking foot for it recently and the needle kept hitting the back of the foot and breaking. It was fine when the presser foot was raised, but once you started to sew, there was the problem. Is there a special walking foot for this machine? Or can she use any standard low shank one and her problem is with the machine and not the foot?

I don't know anything about a White sewing machine but if I acidently grab the walking foot that belongs to my slant needle machine and try to use it on my regular needle machine, the same thing happens. She may have bought a walking foot for a slant needle machine and hopefully can exchange it for one that fits. (Assuming of course that the machine sews fine with other feet)

I was kind of wondering this, when I first looked at it. I own all slant needles, but two, and thought maybe it might be the problem.

My White 782 was stolen sometime in the last two years, from storage out of my garage where many things were stolen. It also was in showroom condition, had all accessories, cams, mint condition manual, and it came with a gorgeous wide heavy oak sewing desk. I was rather devastated that it was stolen along with a great deal of fabric, notions, and sewing tools. If anyone knows of another mint condition White 782 that is for sale, I would love to buy it as I have replacement insurance. I know the insurance company will have limitations on how much they will pay and I can't really afford to go over that, but other than my stolen baby photos, this was the one item I would love to get back. Thanks for keeping your eyes open for a model like this. I mean, it was gorgeous. Didn't realize how rare it would be to find one like that. Glad I wasn't the only one, though. It's a really nice machine.

Does the left needle position on the White affect the walking foot?
