Date: 1/26/09 11:59 AM Hi everyone... in sewing yardage for the fabric stash contest, I realized that I am also using previously unsewn patterns, since I am using this as motivation to try sewing knits that I have stashed away, something I haven't mastered and am a little intimidated by. So, I wondered if perhaps a future fabric stash reduction contest could include bonus points for also using a pattern that you have stashed, or maybe have a pattern stash contest all on it's own. thoughts? Date: 1/26/09 1:48 PM I would like to see a contest on bathing suits and another on undergarments. I think these would get people to try new patterns and new fabrics and those who have done these would be a great help with their reviews. ------ Janome10001, Babylock ESG3, Brother ULT 2001, White 634D serger, Pfaff 1472, Singer featherweight, Singer 14T957Dc, Bernina FunLock 009DCC coverlock, Brother PQ1500S, Janome CP900. |

Date: 1/26/09 2:24 PM thanks for the info on the pattern stash contest, glad to know about that. Too bad for me that it's not concurrent with the fabric stahs one, eh? I like the idea of the bathing suit challenge, too.... ------ Viking Lily 545

Date: 1/26/09 3:56 PM I'd like to see (tongue in cheek!) a contest on NEW patterns -- as I've been destashing fabric, I've also been purging patterns and restocking with ones better suited to me and my folks I sew for!! So most of them are not just "new to me," they're the brand new ones getting raves on the boards! Of course, by the time that pattern stash contest comes around, they'll probably be well enough ages, and -- predictably -- untouched, so they'll work then! Not that I intend for them to sit unused for months, but the best of intentions, well, you all know! ------ Sewing fills my life. And my living room, and bedroom, and closets, and car . . .

Date: 2/1/09 10:59 PM I think a cool contest might be a 2-month contest in which the object is to sew as many of the patterns from last year's Best Patterns list.
It would probably be judged on a point basis as well as have a voting component. Not sure how they would be weighted, but something like that might be fun.

Date: 2/2/09 7:46 AM Interesting suggestion on the Best Pattern List contest.
If others have ideas, go ahead & post them. Of course, keep in mind that there are more contest ideas than time to run them, so not everything can get done!

Date: 2/17/09 9:46 AM After reading through some other blogs I found people who had purchased the same fabrics. I have to think about the logisitics of it, but a "Use of Same Fabric" now sticks in my mind. Say we have 5 fabric choices, from PR retailers and simultaneous mini-contests for each fabric. As much as PR has different outcomes for a PATTERN, lets see what everyone uses the same fabric for. (Maybe this could actually be the Pattern Stash contest! Same fabric- pattern from your pattern stash.) ------ Don't confuse accessibility with ease; just because anybody can pick up a needle and thread doesn't mean sewing quality garments is easy. |

Date: 2/22/09 2:18 PM I've had this idea pop into my head from time to time... not sure PR has ever done this, but here goes: how about kind of the reverse of "one pattern, many looks" -- "one item, many patterns"? For example, I would love to make myself a whole bunch of skirts, and have numerous skirt patterns, so it would be fun to make a series of them. I also have lots of jeans patterns, lots of pants patterns, etc. etc. You get the idea. My thought is that the patterns could either be new or ones that had been used before, but the challenge would be to see how many of the same category of item you could make within the time frame (two months??).
I realize the initial post here was about a specific contest idea (as it turns out, one that's already in place), but since people seem to be adding other ideas, I thought I'd throw this one into the mix.
ETA: Yikes, edited because I can't spell today (I wrote "through" and meant "throw," lol).
