Last night at my son's cub scout meeting, the den mother showed our den the Brag Vest (used to sew on all the boys patches that don't belong on the uniform.). It was very simply made of red felt with seams on the shoulder. I have a pattern similar for women, but I need the scale for a small boy (size 8). Any suggestions?

I found this while googling around: Brag Vest

Looks like it could easily be adaptable to whatever size.

Make it big, you don't want to keep moving those patches from vest to vest. Ask me how I know?

Thank you so much. I kow what I am doing tomorrow.... It looks so easy, I may make one for the whole den - only 9 boys.

You can buy interfacing with 1 inch squares printed on it and use the link from Hanfaith to copy. Joann carries this. Hope that helps.

thanks!!

My dh has been asking me to make one of these for 3 years almost. I told him last night I'd do it but he couldn't even remember what fabric to use. He told me velour.

I make mine out of fleece. Living in the midwest, it keeps the fellas warmer in the winter. And it's a little softer than felt.

Our cub pack made those. I actually cut all the vests before the meeting and then we had the boys sew up the shoulder seams. We used the red wool felt blend fabric from Joann's since it was a little thicker than craft felt, but another pack just used the craft felt and it worked fine. One of the boy's older brother had a scout shop vest that we used for the pattern, but it looked nearly IDENTICAL to the one posted above in the "brag vest" link. We left off the hole for the tie (didn't need it - I mean really - these are young boys who don't even tie their shoes most of the time! Tie a vest? no way! LOL) I can't believe the vests cost $20 in the scout shop. Easy enough for 8 year old boys to sew!

If I stitch fast enough, does it count as aerobic exercise?

The actual vest at the scout shop is just felt. We bought one and used it as our pattern to make them for our pack. They were easy peasy. The pattern shown looks pretty exact to me. we did not add the tie in front on ours that the original has as no ever uses them. Once they move into Boy Scouts they use a brag blanket.
