I found this link which shows the original runway design and how it translate to a real person wearing it. This one happens to be oscars dresses. I think this is fascinating since most of the runway looks aren't doable for real life.

I think the dresses look much better on the celebrities than the runway models. The runway models are much too thin.

Thanks for the link, bluefly. I caught a brief clip of the dresses on TV earlier today. Queen Latifah's dress was gorgeous and in her inimitable style, she was saying, (not an exact quote, but this is the gist of it): 'this is couture, honey! You can't find something like this in my size on the racks.'
I just love her!

I agree with you about Queen L. I think she was one of the best dressed. I also loved the fit of Kate Winslett dress.

This year was a particularly good year for the dresses, I think. I only watched the 1st half hour of the show, so I didn't see the full selection. Although a few in that website you linked to were unfortunate choices! :o

I love seeing what Tilda Swinton wears. She has a unique style.

With a great wardrobe that's still in the flat-fabric stage.

She's kind of "not of this world," isn't she? There's a clothing label that uses her as their "muse," but I can't remember the name. Just looked it up: Viktor & Rolf.

Thanks for the link. Freida Pinto improved so much on the runway version of her dress, didn't she - by ADDING A LINING. I liked her dress.

You know, I saw one picture of her (Swinton) and thought "what a horrible outfit", but then I saw a more flattering picture and thought "ooh, I see - she's doing Kathrine Hepburn".

Thanks for the link, Bluefly. I think Tilda swinton's outfit suited her but the runway shot showed more of what it could have been, simply by the model wearing the top tucked in a bit more. Still it was unusual and quirky and I liked it.
But...for straight out glamour I loved Penelope Cruz's 1950's vintage Balmain dress
and for modern glamour I thought Jennifer Anniston's Valentino Couture dress was perfect. *sigh*
