My Brother Innovis 900D arrives at my dealer this Wednesday. I have been torn because of the HSN deal which has the same machine with more extras but no Disney for about a hundred less than the machine I am geting. I sew... but this is my first embroidery machine....I get free lessons one on one. I want to support my dealer in case I have any problems with using my machine....I want him to want to help me. That hundred dollar savings is tough to pass up. I cannot afford the 5x7 machine and think I will really use the 4x4 the most anyway. This 900D also is a great sewing machine. So if my daughter wants my computerized Kenmore in the future, I would still be set for sewing. What do my friends here like or dislike about this machine??

Okay...I know that the 700 does 5x7 and is one up from the 900D. Morning confusion when typing....I am talking about the HSN deal for the Brother 4x4 with USB like the 900D. I forgot to change my clock too. My day is not starting out too well.

I recently had the HE 240- a great machine. Really enjoyable to use and a great price.
That being said, I think you are doing the right thing for you, since it's your first foray into embroidery. You might get alot more out of the lessons than the $100 savings is worth. Also, you are absolutely correct about the dealer support. It's well worth it if you have a question or a problem.

Another thing to consider...Let's say you really dive in and LOVE embroidery. If you buy this machine from the local dealer, they are usually more inclined to give you a better trade deal if you want to upgrade later.

Likes- Like all the auto features, needle up/down, speed control, start/stop button.
Love the USB, much easier than the PED basic/card system.
Liked that it fit perfectly in my small sewing space.

Dislikes- Small harp area, had to use pliers or daughter's small hands to replace the needle.
No storage for Emb unit
Cover is cheezy but ok for the price. 900d has a better one.

HTH,
Enjoy your machine!

I feel better. Thank you for your wise words. Buying a new machine is an experience that it thrilling and makes me filled with angst. I want to buy a machine that I can afford and see future use with....then I read all the posts about machines that do this and that....and I second guess myself. I think the dealer relationship and the lessons are important. The dealer told me that lots of people show up with machines that they bought online and want them fixed....nothing wrong lots of time...just operator error. Thank you for your advice.

Was talking to dealer on phone today. She suggested 900D. It has the Disney software & USB connection. None in stock right now. price $599. brother web site had rebate listed. With out going back & verifying I'm thinking $75. found it used on ebay for 700 used. Deal of the day was a diamond for $1400. I think it was pulled before my pulse got back to normal. There were 2 other high end embroidery machines pulled from ebay as well.

I have found many scammers over the years with ebay, craigslist and kijiji. My vary favorite was a lady that had a machine listed in 4 different provinces. I contacted her and said I lived close to Toronto, her reply was the machine was in Hamilton, (even better for me). I asked several questions about the machine and didn't receive more for an answer then the machine was almost new, not used and she didn't know how that particular feature worked. I had saved the pictures she used, spent several days emailing and I insistead that I wanted to see machine before $2000 cash purchase (retails for $6500). Her reply was she worked and would ship it with 30 days money back guarantee with money order payment, then the machine was sold. I found the exact same listing on ebay 2 hours later. Listing was pulled after I contacted ebay, seller used someone elses pictures.

I encourage those looking to go through dealers for a piece of mind, advise and lessons. Welcome to a very addictive hobby.

I did get my 900D Innovis from a dealer on sale and with a rebate. I have had two lessons....one on one. I am glad that I bought from a dealer. Support is important in embroidery machines. Lots of little things to know. I felt good buying my computerized Kenmore from Sears. I just took it out of the box and sewed up a storm. This brother machine is terrific but requires more of my attention. It sews like a dream.

I have had my Innovis 900D for about a month now. I have never had so much fun sewing....ever! I love it so far and have had no problems with it at all. I did buy through a local sewing shop, and have been offered 1:1 classes, as many as I want for a year. I have had 2 so far. Since I work full-time, I really appreciate having a tutor to help me through relearning this new way to sew. (My old machine is a 30 year old Singer).
Good luck to you! I think you were wise!

I'm just beginning to experiment with the embroidery. I have ALOT to learn! And am having so much fun! I want to find a place I can get fishing flies to embroider onto shirts & things. (I have fun tying flies too!) I'm very crafty and love to get ideas and then use them in a multitude of ways!
