Date: 3/11/09 10:43 AM Ok, ok - somebody had to start this thread, so I figured it might as well be me!
I'm sure many of us are already thinking about what to make.
Obviously this is an established contest. But, will there be any changes to the rules this year? ------ A bad day in the sewing room is better than a good day at the office.

Date: 3/12/09 1:08 PM The Contest Committee has to get together to go over the rules, but they should be ready to go shortly. There was a mention of this contest over on the 2009 Contests thread, I've copied Anne's post below:
Quote: You can look at the rules from the previous contest to give yourself an idea. There is no promise that this year's rules will resemble last year's rules (we haven't started looking yet), but chances are higher rather than lower that they will be similar.

Yes, I'm familiar with the rules from the last two years. I participated in both contests.
There were some changes in 2008 from 2007, so I was just wondering if there were going to be any changes this year.

Date: 3/13/09 12:08 PM How do you know what year a pattern was published if it does not have a date on the envelope or contents? It's obviously vintage by any standards - I'm thinking late '50s - early '60s. I've got a tot pattern, Simplicity 4058 for 35 cents. The instructions are titled "Simplicity Primer".
Is there someway to tell from the pattern number and price?
thanks, Linda (redsquid) ------ redsquid (Linda) |

Date: 3/14/09 9:00 AM Check out http://www.cemetarian.com/index.php?pr=Dating_Sewing_Patterns -- I only recently discovered this myself. It's an excellent resource. From the number and price, it sounds like 1952 might be the year for yours. That pattern number would have come around again in 1961, but by then it looks like the prices were higher. Hope that helps! |

Date: 3/20/09 10:50 AM Hi. I just agreed to be the manager for the Vintage Pattern contest and thought I'd pop in to say hello. I understand the Contest Committee is reviewing the rules, which should be finalized soon.
I look forward to seeing everyone's entries. I'm sure we'll have many beautiful and creative garments. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.
