It has been a while since I have posted on any kind of health issues, and things have been going really well, well since last Wednesday.

DH has been having a bit of pain in the abdomen and we went to the ER last Wednesday. (He went twice, later the same evening as I was getting ready to go to bed.) Then he went to his physician on Thursday.

So it turned out that he has gall bladder issues going on as well as a lesion on his kidney. He just went today to have the CT on his abdomen. Hopefully we will hear the results as soon as tomorrow. ( His mother died from Kidney cancer- 20 years ago)

I am just happy that he has a great doctor, who is very pro active about getting this checked out. Yes, DH is changing his eating habits- no more yummy fat laden foods for a long, long, long time.

For some reason, he thinks that this is not a long term thing.
I just wanted to get some support and find out if anyone else has a relative that has gone through this too.

I have no advice, but I hope this scare is just that and not an indicator of worse problems. I hope it can be resolved soon.

I'm sorry you guys are going through this. It's good to hear that you have a great doctor who will have things checked out.

My sister had her gall bladder removed a couple years ago. My father had had his out too, a long long time ago - turns out to be a hereditary malformation of the gall bladder (no sign yet that I have it though). My sister had to change her diet but as far as I know she's doing ok. My dad seemed to be able to eat anything he wanted although if he'd had pains he wouldn't have told anyone - and unfortunately he died earlier than maybe he would have because he didn't speak up about abdominal pain (not related to gall bladder - turned out he'd contracted hep-C from an earlier operation and it lead to liver cancer).

It's good that your DH is seeing a doctor. Hopefully it's nothing major and it's treatable.

Jennifer,

My thoughts are with you both. I'm unfamiliar with these specific issues, but am impressed and amazed by all the latest medical advances. I will hope for a quick and healthy resolution.

Well, we have the results from the CT scan. Ken has a cancerous growth in one of his kidneys. He called me this morning at work. So, we are going to a specialist this coming Friday afternoon. It looks as though it is in the early stages, so I hope that every little bit of cancer is taken out ASAP!!

We were both pretty stunned about this. I was not expecting this at all. I am hopeful that this is happening now and not 6 months from now.

Jennifer, I can relate totally to your worries. This time last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer (ie hasn't moved to other organs/bones) in my right kidney, resulting in surgery to remove the kidney. I consider myself extremely lucky.

Firstly, I had no symptoms other than the pains, that you mentioned your DH having, which resulted in CT scans showing the growth.

Secondly I had fantastic surgeons who were able to remove the diseased kidney through key hole surgery (verrry lucky here as any larger and key hole would not have been possible). This meant a much shorter recovery time.

Thirdly, I am not restricted in anything I can do. I skied last year (very tentively at first), I travelled O/S and walked everywhere.

Naturally, body contact sports are out (I never did those anyway) and I do have to have 6 monthly blood tests/ x-rays and scans and follow up checks with the specialist.

I'll be thinking of you and your DH. If you need a shoulder or want to email privately, you'll find my email address in my profile. Keep positive.

Here will be good thoughts for your husband's quick and complete recovery.
Our tenant's wife has only one kidney and she does not take care of herself at all--smokes, drinks etc and she is still going remarkably strong. So imagine if you took really good care of yourself how well you would do?
Please keep us updated--all of us are here for ya--even if we are spread across the world! Actually, when I think about the PR members around the world thinking good thoughts for someone I envision a "layer of light" around the earth since we are all "beaming up" at the same time. Must make one one heck of a layer of good energy!
Thinkinboutcha!

Thank you all for your support! DH Ken is really getting worried. I am so busy with teaching, that I really have not stopped to think about it that much. I am keeping positive for both of us. I am trying to keep his spirits up, too.
