I got a new sales flyer from Hancock Fabrics today for March 19 through April 15. Inside their flyer was a one page ad for a 2 1/2 hour Pattern Design class that costs $7.00. It is put on by Tru-Fit Patterns and Tool of Van Wert, OH. They are up front with this statement "Specialized tools and produucts developed by leading Pattern Experts will be demonstrated and sold during the class at special prices.
The ad also states 2 FREE Programs
2 1/2 hour Sewing for Success
The most effective pattern making, fitting and designing DVD ever made AND
1/2 hour Slack Making DVD. Covers complete procedure for making perfectly fitting slacks, slack pattern included.

Both programs on one DVD.

I don't quite get it all. Is it an actual demonstration or going to watch a DVD. They is also a list of what you will learn and a list of learn how to.

I am just curious if any one knows exactly what the deal is on this. It sounds interesting yet I'm also skeptical.

-- Edited on 3/18/09 2:41 PM -- It also states that by attending you will receive 2 FREE Programs and 6 FREE patterns from our "Pattern Making System."

I couldn't find any info on a website; just the company location. I'm intrigued about this; keep us posted!

Could "Tru-Fit Patterns & Tool" be the name of a local company that's selling the Lutterloh system? (link goes to the PR thread on Lutterloh)

Over the years I have encountered these systems and under different names. The only one I attended was many years ago. It was $5. Here is what was covered in the class I took: told about system, examples given, a vest was made for an attendee, and an introduction of their tools. (This was way before DVDs.) A few years ago I unexpectedly received a DVD in the mail. It is from Pattern Design Seminar and does say Lutterloh System on the sizing page.

Though I never did anything with it, I thought it was interesting and has potential. LOL.

No need to be skeptical for only $7.

This is the Lutterloh System. True-Fit is the new name of design to fit. The DVD I have is very old - hopefully they have updated this. On the DVD and covered in the class is the basics of the LS, some free LS patterns and how to sew pants demo. The LS uses your bust and hip measurements to draft patterns. The patterns are in small scale which you draft using the appropriate dots for your measurements. You will be able to make the patterns they give you in class using the scale that comes with them. The LS itself is around $100. Many of us have this system There is a LS thread on the message board.

I attended the class in Atlanta, GA. There is a person from the company that does a demonstration on how to make your own patterns to fit - no matter what your size is. It was very informative. You do receive patterns and a DVD to take home. They also use several products which they will sell to you at the time of the demonstration. I was very impressed and now wish I would have purchased the complete kit. They do give you a price break if you buy at the time of the demonstration versus ordering from the company later. I hope you get to attend and enjoy it as much as I did.

Thank you so much for your reply. It's wonderful to hear from someone who recently attended this class. I am more interested in fitting than pattern making although the two overlap. I just broke down and bought the Threads fitting DVD's. With family obligations, it's just hard for me to go to something like that. I really appreciate your sharing your experience!

I took this class for $7.00 in the winter of 09. I left with a high dollar amount of supplies. The man teaching it talked way too fast and was just wanting to sell. I found him a bit obtrusive, but I like the system. I haven't used it much yet, but plan to. There is a video you can watch at http://www.lutterloh.com.

I attended the Pattern Design class at my local Hancocks and fell in love with the Tru-Fit Pattern Design system. My head is swirling with ideas and I believe that for all that you receive it is well worth the cost. Yes, the class is a sales pitch but it is also very informative with a world of possibilities for any seamstress. I also left with the knowledge and a better understanding of how to make alternations to commercial patterns as well as take the Tru-Fit system and mix it up!
