Hi, I volunteered to manager the forthcoming Knit Contest. So here goes. I've never managed a contest before, and have only ever entered two contests, but what can go wrong, you are all such a great bunch of people. It sure is going to be fun. And I know that AnneM will help if needed. So dig out your knits, get them prewashed (if that's needed) ready to go on April 1. Thats only Wednesday week away.

One Fabric - Knits Rules

for knit contest:
The fabric used in your project must be a knit. No wovens are allowed for this contest. (Trims, closures, or embellishments are allowed.) Hand knitted garments, while wonderful, are not included in this contest

- The item should be wearable and made from scratch. Home dec is not included, nor are reconstructed garments.

- Item must be made during the month of April. (Pattern can be one that you have used before.) Entries must be completed and reviewed by April 30th 11:59 PM Eastern Time (as posted on this website).

- Only one item per person can be entered in this contest. If making an entire ensemble from a pattern, the entire ensemble is considered one item. However, you may enter one piece such as a skirt or jacket.

- Basic trims and other fabric for lining may be used, but the fashion fabric for the garment itself must be a knit. (Is the fabric a structural element of the garment? Then it has to be all knit.)

A Picture (or multiple) in the review is required (for voting).

Guidelines for voting on Contests

Because of the high quality of the garments we're seeing entered in PR Contests, we're setting forth some suggestions that may help you choose when voting.

You may choose to assign a point value to each of the following criteria in order to narrow down your choices.

1. How well does the garment/collection/ensemble/item fit the criteria stated in the contest rules? How well does it fit the spirit of the rules?

2. Are the construction methods, including but not limited to seam finishes, lining techniques, etc, well suited to the design? To the fabric?

3. Is the fabric choice well suited to the design? Are the lining and interfacing choices appropriate?

4. Is the review complete and well written?

5. Taking into account the stated ability level of the entrant, how well does the garment fit?

6. Creative points. You may choose to give credit here for extras including embellishment, creative interpretation of patterns, creativity in creating a pattern, or even for having the restraint to leave something strikingly simple.

7. Complexity of the project. Relate this to the skill level of the participant. If a participant is a beginner then a princess seam may get the same complexity level as an underarm gusset gets for an advanced sewer. This is purely subjective, but a complex garment might garner more points than a simple one if a tie-breaker is needed.

*Rules that apply to all contests:

1. Contests begin on the 1st of the month, and all reviews must be entered for submission by 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the last day of the month.

2. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, Patterns may be drafted, tweaked, and muslined before the contest date, but fabric for the pieces entered may not be laid out or cut till the start date of the contest. Fabric may be pretreated before the contest date.

3. Items intended for sale, or for which you were or will be paid to make, do not qualify for any contest, but items made for charity are welcome!

4. Unless otherwise stated in the rules, all reviews written for a contest entry must include a picture of the entry.

Contest Eligibility

1. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the start of a contest is eligible to enter.

2. Any member of Pattern Review, either paying (FoPR) or non-paying, who's been a registered member on the site for 90 days prior to the end of a contest is eligible to vote in a contest.

3. Any member who's won a prize (1st or 2nd place) in a contest on Pattern Review ended in the previous six months is ineligible to win another contest for a period of 6 months.

I thought I'd better let everyone know that I'm from downunder. New Zealand. So I'm going to bed just as you are getting up. I will check the post most evenings and again in the morning, so the time difference shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm (hopefully) in, too! I love love love knits. And I have this one great piece that I've had for well over a year now, *still* hoping to make it into this:

or this:

...and I just love seeing what everyone else does with knits.

Yvonski, thank so much for moderating!!

I plan to enter too. I need to practice using my coverpro machine and this contest is a great incentive.

I also plan to enter -- so I can practice using my new Coverpro binder. I will probably do a Frankenpattern based on my favorite TNT, Christine Jonson's BaseWearTwo tee shirt.

This is the first I'm eligible to participate in a contest. I've two questions. Can a person enter more than one contest in a month? Can a single item be in more than one contest? If I should make a 1974 pattern in knit fabric, for instance.
Sorry if these have been addressed already, I just want to make sure I do the right thing if I play along.

Thanks, Dee and Anne!

Eve S made that dress in her pre-pregnant days. Review Here. I've loved it since! Okay-- so that's the one. I think.

Deepika, you need to do something for this contest!! Isn't that new CS machine just calling out to you??
