Hello all my friends at PR!Some of you will remember that my dd is throwing a wedding (they already got married on Valentines Day---long story) on June 20th. She informed me that I have to wear a "GOWN" of sorts. I posted at one point about what pattern to use for this garment to meet my dd's expectations.

Fast forward---I go to a sewing retreat with Cynthia Guffey and she fits a jacket and long skirt for me that are perfect. She has the most gorgeous raw silk sample in a dark neon blue---dynoooomite! However, when she tries to order it for me, she can't get it. Well, I am devastated and can't find same fabric anywhere on the net, at any where the price. Make a long story short---Lucy the wonderful assistant to CG calls me yesterday and tells me after four orderings, they have my fabric!!! (Don't anyone here say anything ugly about CG here because she knew it was important to me and tried four times to order it just for me! )

So, now I have to change plans and go to my fitted muslin patterns with this gorgeous raw silk---so my helpful friends---what do I line this jacket and skirt with???
Denver Fabrics has what they call "Hang down lining" and of course Bemberg. Royal Bemberg lining.Hang loose lining.
Both of these are the same price, but I need the one that would work the best---or alternatives. I need one that breathes so I don't have to sweat my tail off. Add any and all suggestions---I am totally open for any and all help!!!

Well, hang loose is polyester. Yuk! Bemberg is rayon and breathes but I'd love to see at least the jacket in silk charmeuse or crepe de chine. Have you looked over on Fabric Mart for some great silk for a lining? If you want a plain, not patterned silk Mood has silks in every color as does a place called NY Fabrics?, Marji used them but I can't find the right name or address.

Ambiance Bemberg rayon!! It is a little more expensive in my area but well worth it. A lot of those linings are polyester and would be really hot. I didn't know they had already gotten married! So this will just be the reception/party?

I'm using ambiance to line that silk I bought from her.

As a heads up, sometimes you can get it with a coupon at Joanne's. Mine usually just as basic colors.

You know part of the story, but they got married at the court house bc the groom's dad has terminal cancer and heart trouble, and they wanted to make sure he got to see them tie the knot. However, we are still going forward with her "Perfect" day with all regalia, including my garment that is supposed to be totally glamorous.

OK, I am off to see what is out there that will make a good color match. I am excited about getting this fabric since I did not think I was gong to be able to get it at all, and it is the most yummy color in the whole world---- a neon icy dark blue! YUMMMMOOOO!

That color sounds really amazing! How about a china silk lining? Lots of colors at Thai Silks here.

Crepe de chine would be nice too.

I adore Cynthia and visit her yearly at her retreats. She is such a remarkable woman, especially if you know her well. She was my inspiration and the woman whom I dedicated my business to when I first opened my drapery workroom. I'm not surprised that she tried so hard to find your fabric for you.

If she fit you for the gown you are going to look awesome! I think I saw the same raw silk sample and it is definitely a knock out! Do post a picture for us.

I'm going to recommend underlining with silk organza - I assume your raw silk is a silk tussah or dupioni, and it really should be underlined. Then I'd line the skirt with silk habotai aka "china silk" - make sure you get the silk habotai and Not the polyester lining that is branded "china silk".
Then I'd line the jacket with silk crepe de chine.
I've lined silk garments, many of them, some with Ambiance and some with silk, and I far prefer the silk over the Bemberg. For my money, I still get hot in the Bemberg.
Your color sounds lovely.

Thai silks is a good resource, Liz gave the link above, as is NYFashion Center Fabrics.

I agree with PeggyL, Ambiance Bemberg lining. Haven't been on here in awhile....it is amazing, & if you saw my lining at the CG retreat, that is what I was using. Your outfit is going to look fabulous. For some reason I had in my mind a dress you were making, but the jacket & skirt is going to be wonderful!!!! Please post your pattern review & pics for us to enjoy!!!!!!!

Marji- I was in the same class as Melody. The silk we got from Cynthia is not dupioni but I'm not sure about silk tussah (since I'm not familiar with that term!!). I have washed one piece I bought to use as a blouse. The other piece I have steamed and am going to use to make CG's latest jacket pattern. Very simple style so should go together quickly.
