Subject: Modes Royale Pattern Magazines Date: 5/16/09 10:11 PM

I managed to snag 3 Modes Royale pattern magazines. I've uploaded photos of the patterns inside as well as ads I thought were just too funny.

I did not usually focus on the sketches of the backs of the outfits. If there's one you'd like to see let me know.

Also there was instructions on making your own beach cape. If you'd like close up of those, let me know.

Important to note: In the same magazine were ads for increasing your bust and reducing your bust. Typical female magazine - can't decide which is worse.

I love modes royale styles from the '50s! Their designs consistently had some awesomely over-the-top details: curvy seamlines, lots of buttons, exaggerated cuffs 'n' collars and lots of attention to contrasting trim. Thank you for uploading these! fun stuff!

Thank you, Cat, for taking the time to upload all of this.

Lovely to look at. A really nice antidote to the spate of shapeless designs we've seen for the past several seasons.

I wish we saw as much diversity in details in patterns today as back then. So many different necklines, just for starters!

Wow, Thanks for sharing this. There were some beautiful designs in there. The variety of styles and details are just beautiful. Wish the current pattern companies would take notice and expand the details of their designs. Was this a magazine similar to Burda where the patterns are included in the magazine or a catalogue that you could order the patterns?

Those are great! Modes Royale really had some stand-out designs. Thanks so much for sharing!

Very cool! I had no idea there was a Modes Royale magazine. I have one of their "customized" patterns from 1947; it was my mother's high school graduation dress.

I did a blog post a while back about it; it has a scan of the pattern envelope and a photo of her wearing the dress.

That's really cool!

I am curious though, how long is the 'sterlized' straw going to stay sterlized if you have to blow into it to inflate your inflatable bra?

I so totally wish there were patterns.

Sadly, it is just a catalogue were you view (maybe?) order the patterns. It seems like a cross between the Big 4 catalogues at JoAnns and a regular magazine with adverts and articles.

Still really fun to look at!!
