Date: 6/18/09 11:48 AM My dh has a business trip to Chicago next week and has lovingly agreed to buy me some fabric instead of a "I've been to Chicago!" T-shirt.
Any store recommendations? Many thanks.

Date: 6/18/09 4:25 PM It depends where your DH will be. If he is downtown, Vogue Fabrics on Roosevelt; Fishman's is good too. The Vogue Fabrics in Evanston is NE of the city and may be more difficult to get to. (At times my DD wonders if I look forward to coming o to Chicago for our mother-daughter week-ends or is it because of Vogue Fabircs?)
PS Maybe you should come with him since you will have plenty to do spending at day fabric shoppig? -- Edited on 6/18/09 4:25 PM -- ------ "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anais Nin

Date: 6/18/09 5:13 PM Thank you ladies! Vogue fabrics and Fishman's Fabrics are only about 6-7 minutes away from where dh will be. Yay! Now to decide what *type* of fabric to ask him to search for. Wish I could go with him, but not possible this year. But bringing back some fabric love will make up for it.
Thanks again for posting/sharing.

Date: 6/19/09 8:31 AM You could look around on the Vogue website and tell him exactly what you wan. Boy, I'd never trust my husband to shop for fabric. I can barely trust him at the grocery store. |

Date: 6/19/09 9:23 AM Just want to chime in to say I've found nice pieces in the remnant sections of both Vogue Fabrics (on Roosevelt & in Evanston) and Fishman's. Fishman's has a lot of higher-end fabrics, and to be honest I was not prepared for $45/yard silk charmeuse. I found nice cotton shirtings and some funky skirt-weight printed blends at the Vogue spots, as well as some pretty knits. My partner was in San Francisco a while back and bought me a present from Britex since I wasn't able to go with her; she took a pic with her cell phone & asked my approval first! That worked out well :) ------ "You have a better life if you wear impressive clothes." -Vivienne Westwood |

Ah well, it will be a nice surprise. Thanks for sharing your insight. :)

Date: 6/19/09 5:54 PM I posted the addresses, phone numbers and hours yesterday for both of the Vogue stores but someone must have thought that it was an ad and removed the post. It wasn't an ad...
The Roosevelt store is open only until 6 pm on M/T/W/F/S
It is open until 8 pm on Thursday.
and noon-5 pm on Sunday.
If you look on Vogue's website you will find their latest sale flyer which might help you decide what to ask your husband to look for. They have quite a few nice things on sale right now like silks and Bamboo knits. The sale ends June 20th according to the flier I have but I have never seen them mark things back UP after they have been put out on a sale table so it's worth looking at the flier.
If he is driving he will need plenty of quarters for the metered parking near the Vogue store on Roosevelt. The city recently leased it's parking meters out to a for-profit company and the rates have gotten crazy while enforcement is strict. There is parking lot for Fishman's but he will be towed if he leaves his car there and goes to Vogue. There is also a store called Rainbow Fabrics across the street from Vogue. I haven't been there since they first opened but they had some amazing things at decent prices when they first opened.
If he is NOT driving, tell him to take the # 12 bus. It will drop him right in front of the store. -- Edited on 6/19/09 6:03 PM -- ------ I am going for a level of perfection that is only mine...
